This thread is really only for hardcore MC fans and remix collectors - can anyone confirm if the Can't Take That Away (Morales Unreleased Harmonica Dub) 6:19 is official, like is it legit? Or is it just some fan-made bootleg? If you're any kind of DM fan, you know that he keeps his vault stuff to himself almost 100% of the time, and leaked Morales stuff doesn't exist. Period. That's the first reason I suspect this mix might be a fake. Second reason is how it ends (faded into another song, sounds like) the fact that it's pitched down by about 96%, and how it kinda skips at 1:35, 3:10, 4:48 and 5:15, almost like some fan just assembled it from bits & pieces of the Morales Revival Triumphant Mix. Then again, that mix only has maybe a minute of harmonica solo, if that. This one isn't just that same solo looped....or is it? Sandeep or anyone else have any thoughts on this MC mystery? =D

Kind of adding to my own post here, but to clear up a seperate MC mix mystery (that no one asked about) there's an alleged Celebration Mix Instrumental for "Joy To The World" that, after listening VERY carefully to this and comparing it side by side with the official Celebration Mix, I've concluded that it's a fan-made Celebration Mix TV Track (the artificial pitch increase at the key-change is the dead giveaway). But there's still certain parts that are totally instrumentals, where you can actually hear MC's vocals barely in the background. Either this is one impressive filtering job, or somebody leaked this TV track, or part of it - maybe at a performance or something, didn't she do this mix live a couple times?

Neither of those tracks were ever officially released. yes, I realize that :) My question is on the legitimacy of the mixes, like being a fan-made fake dub, vs. a real one done by DM but just unreleased. I'm quite familiar with MC's remix catalog, probably more so than anyone else on this message board except for maybe Sandeep, and only 'cuz he's submitted half her back catalog to Discogs ;) hehe

Yeah, the Harmonica Dub does sound a bit suspicious. I can't say for sure, but there are certainly enough parts in the Morales Club Instrumental to assemble the majority of it. I don't have my vinyl to hand so can't really compare the Triumphant Mix. But I would say it's fake. The problem with Mariah, Madonna, MJ, etc is that the fans sometimes get a bit crazy and create fakes to pass them around and get other real exclusives in return.
BTW, for the record the one unreleased Mariah Carey Morales Mix I *am* sure about is an unreleased Dub Mix of "Honey". He played it on Radio 1 on a mixshow he did back in like '97, and mentioned at the end when he gave a tracklisting that it was unreleased due to sample issues. I need to dig the tape out and record it in I think.

I can't say for sure, but there are certainly enough parts in the Morales Club Instrumental to assemble the majority of it. I almost jumped to that conclusion myself, but then I realized: the Revival Triumphant Mix had absolutely nothing in common with the Club Mix (and its accompanying instrumental). Listen to the Club Instrumental and it's a completely different bassline. I'm thinking more and more that this might be an honest-to-goodness unreleased Morales Dub! woot woot! By the way, yes you do need to be finding that old mixtape with the Honey Dub *lol* the only other "unreleased" DM mix I have is a dub/instr of "My All" I ripped from some w/l 12" years ago from another fan - can't even remember what else was on it, but definitely a seperate and distinct mix from the 3 vocal mixes they released.

oh there is a morales dub/instr of my all? i never know that. would be great if i can have a chance listening to it. As I am also a fan of Mariah, i have been collecting her mixes for years (please note that I'm not a Mimi fan). It's really interesting to know there are some unreleased mixes from her columbia era.
When it comes to Def Jam era, I can't really tell some mixes are real or not. Can someone please tell me if the following mixes are real?
Through The Rain (Soda Club Mix) The One (Widelife Radio Mix) <heard that it's a fan made edit? The One (Joey Negro Radio Mix) The One (Richard Morels Radio Mix) Bringin' On The Heartbreak (DFA Mixes) <where does it come from?! and is deep influence mix real too? We Belong Together (Tony Moran Club Mix) < Tony mixed it months later when it peaked at #1? any edits or dubs? Shake It Off (Gomi Club Mix) < some ppl said this mix was not really the final version Say Somethin' (Sugardip Club Mix) Fly Like A Bird (David Harness Remix) Fly Like A Bird (Miracle Of Flamefly Priv-8 Mix) < who mixed it? Touch My Body (Tiesto Mix) < never heard of it, but some fans said it exists

To my knowledge Flamefly does bootleg mixes, so that Fly Like A Bird remix of his would be an unofficial mix.

Through The Rain (Soda Club Mix): Yep, released on DMC Commercial Collection 240. Bringin' On The Heartbreak (DFA Mixes): Not sure about this one, but sounds really interesting. DFA bootleg every single one of their Remixes (official or not) onto 12" vinyl and this one didn't seem to make it out... Shake It Off (Gomi Club Mix): Final or not, it was legit, and the leak ended up killing the project. Say Somethin' (Sugardip Club Mix): Legit, only sent out on mp3. Fly Like A Bird (David Harness Remix): Legit. But all the mixes got shelved so only came out on booty vinyl here.

Shake It Off (Gomi Club Mix): Final or not, it was legit, and the leak ended up killing the project. Project? There were never any remixes planned for this in the first place, no? Long before Gomi's mix ever leaked, I submitted my MichaelAngelo Meets Morales Mashup to the label, and was told by both the A&R consultant AND later the actual IDJMG label guy that they weren't planning any remixes for Shake It Off. But there could be information I'm not aware of, so who knows. Oh, and to answer your question glamjunkie, the Soda Club DMC mix was 100% official, and imho thee best remix for the song hands-down. It was only released in the UK on 12" and CD, on the DJ-service promo label DMC. The mixes of "The One" you listed are 100% official, just never released. Cary Vance from Promo Only was the A&R remix coordinator for MC around this time period if I remember correctly, he might have more info on those. The TM mix of "We Belong Together" was 100% official, and serviced to radio (and clubs too maybe?) on a 3-trk promo CD-R AFTER the first batch of remixes, to help push the record to #1 on the BB dance chart (which it did, if memory serves). There was a Moran & Rigg Club Mix (9:12), Mixshow (5:08) and Radio Edit (3:48).

Thx Azriel D. & Sandeep for the info.
DJMichaelAngelo, I think your remix is excellent. I don't really keep unofficial mixes of Mariah. But your mix is very good that I still play it from time to time. And about the mixes of "The One", yeah I know Widelife, Joey Negro & Richard Morels were official. I remember I downloaded Widelife's club and dub from their official website. And I got Joey and Richard mixes from mariah's fan club. But I am curious if there are radio mixes. Because some people from a Mariah forum said that widelife didn't do a radio mix, that's just a fan made version. Then what about Joey and Richard? And I never know a CD-R of WBT Tony mix exists! No one reports it to Mcarhives.com (it's getting crazy over there since it also lists bootlegs). Do you have the mixshow and radio edit can send me please?

I think the 6:24 Morel's Pink Noise Mix is the only one. Say Somethin' (Sugardip Club Mix): Legit, only sent out on mp3. There was a CD promo with club/dub/edit...

I've always been interested in the SugarDip Dub. I tried to find it for awhile but then I gave up.
Also, The Morales Inst/Dub of My All is my favorite instrumental or dub my Mariah ever, next to the Morales SS Dub. I'm also very glad that it borrows from the Morales "Def" Club Mix and not the Classic and Morales "My" Club Mix.
Also, Does anybody still have the Pound Boys unreleased mix of ITL? I need to check a bunch of CD-Rs I have at home, as there are a lot of rare mixes I've collected through-out the past few years on them.

I had a full, low quality version of the Pound Boys mix which was a recording from the preview on VitalVinyl.com. They used to sell a 12" with the mix on it. I never did buy it though. I liked that mix. It was a nice alternative to the Morales mixes, though I did like the Morales ones a lot. EDIT: I found a listing for that 12" on Discogs. www.discogs.com/release/506915

I saw the vinyl at HMV of all places once, and just randomly picked it up (back in the day when I was happy to spend £40 on random records a week). I guess I picked up something that was in limited press cos I've had a few messages from Mariah fans over the years about it. Noothing too special from what I remember, but mainly cos Morales killed it.

They only had the album version acapella to work with, but even worse was the way they actually PITCHED mariah's vocals down by a half-step, which is unheard of in music production - you never EVER touch the key a vocalist is singing in. Absolutely unforgivable. At first I thought I maybe got a bad rip, like where the turntable speed was too slow. But when I manually sped up the mix to its correct key, it was 132 BPM+ and the music sounded artificial and unnaturally sped up. Correct track time on this should be 7:34.

You must have a duff Mix, cos I'm sure the vinyl doesn't sound anything like that? Granted I haven't listened in ages, but I'd remember something like that. I'll have to dig it out.

DFA bootleg every single one of their Remixes (official or not) onto 12" vinyl and this one didn't seem to make it out... This does exist; I have a decent-quality mp3 of the full 9:42 main mix that apparently was ripped from vinyl (there's some cracklage going on in the background)
