And from Rob.... HEY GUYS, I’VE BEEN SO BUSY THAT MARI AND I JUST LOOKED AT THE CALENDER AND REALIZED HOW LONG IT’S BEEN SINCE NEW YEARS AND THAT WE HAVEN’T COME ON TO SAY HAPPY NEW YEAR. SO, FOR STARTERS, HAPPY NEW YEAR! I’VE BEEN BACK AND FORTH TO LOS ANGELES QUITE A BIT, MIXING THE NEW RECORD. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT EVERYONE AT THE LABEL SEEMS TO LOVE IT AND I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER. THE BAD NEWS (NOT SUPER BAD) IS THAT IT LOOKS LIKE IT WON’T BE COMING UNTIL THE LAST WEEK OF JUNE OR THE FIRST WEEK OF JULY. (I KNOW) THANX TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS WHO CAME OUT TO PALM SPRINGS. EVEN WITH ALL OF THE TECHNICAL PROBLEMS, WE MANAGED TO SQUEAK OUT A GOOD TIME. I’VE BEEN IN SOLO WORLD AND IT WAS NICE TO SEE AND PLAY WITH THE GUYS. MOST IMPORTANTLY, MARI AND I CAN’T GET OVER HOW GENEROUS EVERYONE WAS DURING “GD GIVING DAYS”! EVEN IN THESE UNCERTAIN ECONOMIC TIMES, EVERYONE REALLY PITCHED IN AND WE APPRECIATE IT! SPECIAL THANX TO MARE FOR KEEPING MARIA AND THE SIDEWALK ANGELS SITE UP TO DATE WITH THE 411. WELL, FOR NOW I’VE GOT SO MUCH TO DO NOW, PRESS AND PHOTOSHOOTS, ALL THE STUFF THAT GOES INTO PUTTING OUT A RECORD. VERY EXCITING. I’LL FILL YOU ALL IN MORE, SOON. DAMN THE MAN, Rt AND MARI pulsemusic.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=artistkz&action=post&thread=63802&page=1

Why is Rob shouting?! Haha, j/k!
I can't wait! I love me some Rob Thomas. Is he doing a different sound or still stick with the sound of the 1st one?

Why is Rob shouting?! Haha, j/k! I can't wait! I love me some Rob Thomas. Is he doing a different sound or still stick with the sound of the 1st one? Per the Billboard article posted on page one. Thomas describes the album, tentatively titled "Cradle Songs" after one of the tracks, as "the usual mish-mosh of styles, but hopefully just holding true to a bunch of good songs." Several of them, however, take a more global, rhythmic direction after working with South American and African percussionists. "We started off with the idea of doing a newer version of (Paul Simon's) 'The Rhythm of the Saints," Thomas explains, "and that kinda carried us a long way through. It gave us a whole new bed to work with, like 'How do I get my pop sensibility around this and work it into that?' It was a lot of fun. But you go through different phases when you're writing; it took a different turn, and I just followed it, too." I'm hoping for a little more rock than pop this time out. We'll see.

FINALLY it's happening.
(Also I got a few VM comments too... "Rob Thomas? As in Matchbox 20? And you're telling me this is a good show?")

I'm a little disappointed it's not working out to be so RotS-like, but what's described sounds good to me too, especially "Fire on the Mountain." Thanks for the updates.

Something To Be is being re-released on April 7. It's a CD/DVD combo, which the original release was, so I'm not really sure what the bonus features are.

Two songs from Cradlesong are now on the ratethemusic survey. Choose Hot Adult Contemporary and then Unknown Artist. Rob's two songs are the ones being surveyed. Love them both. I think this album may blow the first one out of the water and it was pretty darn good. Rob's getting himself "out there" now. He be the featured speaker at an ASCAP meeting this week and a Billboard conference in Las Vegas later in the month. Rob's a smart cookie.

I need a new copy of STB so if it's reasonably priced, I'll probably pick it up. That DualDisc idea faded quickly.

There's already a preview of Her Diamonds on Rate The Music! ratethemusic.com/survey.cgiHmmm... I'm not sure I like it more than TIHAHB. I'm a bit disappointed. I hope the full version is better! Other song in the preview - Someday (now this one I like, reminds me a bit of ETS).

New issue RS April 2, 2009 Spring album preview article.
Rob Thomas Cradlesong 6/30
On the follow-up to his chart-topping 2005 solo debut, Rob Thomas tries on New Wave (the synthy, Devo-esque "Gasoline"), country ("Getting Late") and world music ("Her Diamonds," featuring Japanese taiko drums). "I recorded all these moments when I felt, like, 'I'm Paul Simon,' or 'I'M INXS,'" says the Matchbox Twenty singer, "But I still retained my identity as a songwriter - I just dressed it up."

Billboard,biz for the 5/9 charts:
• On the Adult Top 40 radio airplay chart, Rob Thomas' "Her Diamonds" sparkles with a No. 27 debut. It's the first single from his second solo album, "Cradlesong," due June 30. His first effort, " . . . Something to Be," spawned four Adult Top 40 hits—"Lonely No More" (No. 1), "This Is How a Heart Breaks" (No. 3), "Ever the Same" (No. 2) and "Streetcorner Symphony" (No. 5).

The cover is kind of wild but I like it. It should certainly stand out in the album racks.
Here's what Rob posted about it today on his website. I am really intrigued with this album. Something I read said there's a song called Gasoline that sounds like 80s Devo so who knows what type of songs he's going to have on it. :o
hey guys! just saying hi and thanks to everyone for all the kind words re:my single and for coming out to citi-field on saturday. i spent the weekend with matt beck rehearsing for some acoustic love for this promo run that we're about to do. a week in europe, back to LA, shooting a cool commercial for RHAPSODY and doing the ELLEN show. busy busy, but it's all in the name of getting the music out there. i saw that the album cover is out there. i'm getting mixed responses from people on it. like it or not, it was my idea. i wanted it to reflect a dark fairy tale and i think i did that. and i thought the artist i found on the internet LOUISE ROBINSON, did a fantastic job!! but, the cover is not the reason to buy a record. it's about the music and it's got that, too!! i'll see you guys out there!

Her Diamond is #3 in Australia! CR: 8-3- That ties "Smooth" as his biggest solo hit there. In more good news, the single appears to be re-gaining ground on the American iTunes chart and, should it keep this growth up through this next week, it will surely outpeak its existing #42 peak. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I've always been critical of the amount of support (or lack thereof) that Rob and MB20 got from their label but Atlantic seems to really be behind this album. I think they know that they may have a winner here if they can generate some buzz for an artist that's now been around for 12 years but isn't really a superstar. Not an easy task, IMO. Hopefully, the music will speak for itself and word-of-mouth will be good.
In the interim, I like the big Rob picture on itunes main page! Also, next week, we should start seeing the Rhapsody TV ad for Cradlesong and the entire album will be available for streaming on Rhapsody and VH1 on Tuesday. Rob will also be performing in PRIMETIME on the 4th of July Macy's fireworks network special. I've wondered for years why he had so few TV performances apart from the talk show circuit. So in December he performed a Who song at the Kenndy Center Honors and now there's Macy's. Certainly a big step up for Rob in the PR department;D

I hope him and Jewel do another duet since she'll be at that Macy's show as well. I wondered it that might be a possibility too since they did generally perform a song together when they were on tour together a few years ago. I just read this in an article. Interesting indeed. I wondered if he might be writing for other people under different names. As well as writing for yourself and your band you’ve also written for the likes of Willy Nelson, Mick Jagger, Santana and Daltry. Can we expect more credits soon? “OneRepublic are going to tour with us this year, so I’ll be able to hang out and do some writing with Ryan Tedder which will be great. I’m also writing songs anonymously - I’ve done stuff for Seal and Mary J. Blige like that.I bet he's not referrring to the song Mary J. sung on one of the Santana albums because his name was on that song with Big Boi.
