Did anyone listen to Country Top 40 this week, with Jeffrey Steele as guest host? I thought it was an interesting show. Here are some of the highlights in my opinion:
*Steele telling the stories behind some of his songs. These were interesting, especially the one about how he started playing the rhythm to "Unbelievable" on his steering wheel, and how Al Anderson convinced him that "gotta have-able" was a word
*Acoustic rendition of "Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground" in the 4th hour. Not my favorite Willie song, but it still sounded cool. (Is it just me, or has his voice gotten way rougher since the Boy Howdy days?)
*Jeffrey telling of how he played Alabama's "There's No Way" at Bob Kingsley's wedding (as the milestone song)
*Listener requests: "A Cowboy's Born with a Broken Heart" by Boy Howdy and "I'm Tryin'" by Trace Adkins. (I especially liked Jeffrey's comment on the former: "I sure do like that lead singer…")
*Other little tidbits, like how he met Lee Ann Womack back when she was "no bigger than my thumb". For some reason, I was more comfortable with Jeffrey chumming it up than with Kix doing the same dang thing.
Overall, Jeffrey seemed to have a lot of fun behind Bob's mic.
The oddities: *Giving the story behind "What Hurts the Most"... then playing ONLY the first verse and chorus. Major snip job there.
*Actually, a LOT of songs got snipped up this week. I counted five or six. This isn't quite as one guest-host stint in late 2005 where eight songs got shortened…

I enjoyed the show as well, although I wasn't too thrilled about those snip jobs either, such as the one on 'Love Is A Beautiful Thing', which he said that someone named Paul Brandt had orginally recorded it in 1994!!
Jack Ingram will be mikeside this coming weekend.

I missed that show this past week, but Jeffrey is a great songwriter and wished he'd release more songs on his own.

Bad math on my part; Steele said that he wrote that song 13 years ago, which would have been in 1995.
