Z100's listeners are very into rhythmic type songs. So when something really mature and different gets played, the listeners freak out and call in telling them to stop. It's no surprise "La Tortura" was more liked by Z100 listeners.

And yet Z100 plays Cool a lot, you'd think Z100 would be a little kinder towards Shakira thats all

Well, the text votes for Don't Bother on Z100 were: 539 voted that they did not like the song 427 voted that they love the song.
according to a poster at shakirafanz.com. Which I guess isn't as horrible as I originally thought it was. Apparently, other songs have gotten bad early response on Z100 and have been added to the playlist anyways.

This is okay, it doesn't stand out to me the way "Whenever, Wherever" did, maybe it will grow...

At another board I visit, the song has pretty much gotten straight bad reviews. I know thats not representative of the whole at all...but its just weird to me that everyone here thinks this is brilliance and so intelligent and so wonderful, but I just dont get it....so I was kind of relieved to find other people who dont get it either.
I still hope it does REALLY well, because its Shakira, but Im worried about if it becomes a huge hit or not. I hope she has an amazing second single just to make sure.

Oh, well. That's only one board. I've only seen one board with bad reviews and that was a total of 4 people, so I wasn't too concerned. And I've been to a lot of different music boards. Overall, I am amazed at the positive response to this song considering that I wasn't too impressed with it originally.

Frankly, I think the reason many listeners said they didn't like the song is because it isn't the type of song people will like instantly. It isn't like "My Humps" or something. This song will grow on people after a few listens. That's what happened with me.

2 Questions though: How do you know when a song goes for adds? And what is the airplay cycle? wed - tues? If so does that mean the .8 million from Monday wont count?

And what is the airplay cycle? wed - tues? If so does that mean the .8 million from Monday wont count? There is a list that is available on Allaccess or Radio&records that show the songs going for adds for each format each week. The airplay cycle is one week. For the quick cut table it counts the spins for the last week . So if you see today's table (wednesday) the cycle is from tuesday last week to yesterday. Thus the 99 spins for don't bother include spins from monday and tuesday. The song is up today to #89 on the Pop/mainstream chart

Go Des Moines, IA way to represent the Midwest!!! Thanks for the info on the radio stations Hacorzo!.
So does that mean Don't Bother only got 9 adds yesterday? If so, that's horrible. :o

I really hope that`s not the list of adds :(. Only 9 isn`t good at all. But I think those are just the stations that first played.

I think this will be a grower on Pop radio. It will take some time. Its not instantly catchy like La Tortura, especially in the NY and Miami markets where that track was played out. The sound and vibe is completely different.

For Allacces you need to have a password , if you do , then go to Top/40 and then click on future releases... For radio and records this is the link for this week: gfa.radioandrecords.com/PublishGFA/GFANextPage.asp?sDate=10/10/2005&Format=1I think Billboard week goes from sunday to sunday for chart purposes the same as Radio and Records.

If so, that's horrible. :o Those stations are the ones detected by Mediabase that played the song on monday. The official add date was tuesday. Besides there are many stations that add song but dont play them until later in the week, and if it was played only once it wouldnt show up on the list anyways.
