Sonny J "Can't Stop Moving '08" [Mirwais Mixes]
Um, yes. There was another thread for the original release over a year ago. But this is a new version of the song, charting as a new release. Just in case someone asks...
This is without a doubt, one of my favorite dance songs from 2007 and now 2008.
Sonny J is Sonnington James III, from Liverpool, England. His story is one that is now becoming commonplace: He placed a rough demo of "Can't Stop Moving" in his MySpace page. This led to a record-label feeding frenzy. Eventually, he signed to EMI Records UK, who in turn revived its soul label Stateside in his honour.
His debut single, "Can't Stop Moving", received high praise from all critics alike and great things were expected. So what does the label do? Release it in the Autumn, instead of releasing at the very start of the summer. The single flopped (technically speaking, the single debuted at No. 95 and climbed to No. 80 the following week, but the Top 75 is considered the official charts).
His follow-up single, "Enfant Terrible", was released in early 2007 and did even worse, completely missing the Top 100. Third single, "Handsfree (If You Hold My Hand)", was released in June 2008. It performed marginally better, debuting and peaking at No. 77.
At the same time early this year, a fan-made video of the song, featuring The Jackson 5 became the latest viral sensation, generating new interest on the song. The single received significant airplay on UK's Radio 1. So what does Stateside/EMI do? Re-release the single (with a new remix, natch) over a year later... again in the Autumn. By the time the single is released commercially, Radio 1 has stopped playing the song. The single debuts at No. 55 (based on digital sales) and two weeks later it climbs to No. 40 (after its physical release), its peak position.
Sonny J's debut album, "Disastro", was released on June 13, 2008.
Oh, "Can't Stop Moving" does not sample The Jackson 5, as widely believed. It samples "Brand New", as performed by The Stooges Beautiful Zion Choir.

"Can't Stop Moving 2008"
Sonny J follows his critically-acclaimed debut album "Disastro" with new single "Can't Stop Moving", released 8th September on Stateside Recordings.
"Can't Stop Moving" was released last year as a sparkling introduction to Sonnington James III. But now it's back! Bigger, faster, bolder and an even more excitable beast. Having been reworked, worked out, circuit trained and fed protein shakes by the brilliant Mirwais, (the man responsible for Madonna's "Music") "Can't Stop Moving" is set to become the kaleidoscopic feel good hit of the summer.
Yet, Sonny J is more than just "Summer Nights" rave-ups and irresistible, Prozac pop mind. He wants to free your mind, too. Listen a little closer to "Can't Stop Moving" and you'll discover samples of lysergic gonzo-astrology ('You have a tendency to drift') and snippets of '70's TV arcana ranging from The Rockford Files to The Brady Bunch - we're guessing here - which will leave even The Avalanches scratching their heads.
Sonny is on fire on the moment, "Disastro", the debut album has been lauded across the newspapers and throughout the blogsphere. And it's no surprise: "Disastro" is the soundtrack to heaving dancefloors, moonlit parties and sweaty rock 'n' roll clubs. It's the perfect album soundtrack your summer, the blissed-out climax that you don't want to end.
"Can't Stop Moving" incorporates beaming psychedelia, junk shop beats and a northern soul vocal that suggests Betty Wright on helium, being baked under a lysergic sky. — Observer Music Monthly
