I love this song, it debuted last week on my chart at #37 and it rose to #27 this week. I usually do a next week estimate for every song and I'm currently predicting this will rise to around #14-16. "Stars" only got to #16 on my chart so this will outpeak it in just 3 short weeks.
This deserves top 10 at Pop, it is their most pop-friendly song to date.

Yeah... it had a nice 10 spot move on mine too... 38-28... and there aren't a lot of really strong songs in the 20's on my chart, so this should probably go top 20 next week.... Looks like were both trying to "break" this one. I guess you've barely got the lead on me here. ;)

I like this song. It just debuted on my chart at #25 this week. It's a Top 25, so that's not that high lol. Not sure how it'll do, I'll have to listen to it some more.

^^ Dang... that only makes me 3rd highest on this one... and here I thought I was going to break this one on my own... ;)
Well, it looks like it will be hitting the pulse 100 soon enough on the strength of the 3 of us alone almost. :)

^^ Wow, Clem! Like I said the other week, I need to start listening to my CCM stations a little more... I'm usually really up on the new Christian stuff... but I've been slacking!!!
So now, there are 4 of us already reporting this in the top 30... that's a good sign!!! :)

Too bad radio doesn't follow the Pulse 100, I think the chart here generally looks pretty good!
Currently this at #226 with 11 spins, and it is down 4 spins. Not a lot of pre-impact for them, of course "Stars" wasn't that big, but I figured since that is so old more stations would've already began picking up on this.

Yeah, really... to have our charts actually mean something... now wouldn't that be great! Well, hopefully this will start to pick up here at CHR in the near future...

90 63 SWITCHFOOT We Are One Tonight 256 95 +161
This is taking off pretty well, #2 behind Pink, not bad at all considering how "Stars" did. At this rate it will definitely pass "Stars" and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this went top 20. This song is perfect for radio!

What a FLOP! I wonder if they will have another smashes like "Meant To Live" and "Dare You To Move". :(

They will, I think this is a talented group and just had a rushed sophomore effort leading into a sophomore slump.

What a FLOP! I wonder if they will have another smashes like "Meant To Live" and "Dare You To Move". :( They will, I think this is a talented group and just had a rushed sophomore effort leading into a sophomore slump. This is a CHRISTIAN band not looking for mainstream CHR/Pop success... Unfotunately, when a Christian band crosses over to the mainstream, some people aren't aware of where the group is coming from, and more often than not, they don't know the true meaning of the songs... Switchfoot, first and foremost is a Christian group, so any songs that just happen to cross over to CHR/Pop are just a bonus... what's important is where the songs are doing on the Christian charts... They aren't looking for success here... if it happens great, but it's not what they are about... "Meant To Live" and "Dare You To Move" both went top 10 at CHR... this has to be considered one of the most unlikely things to ever happen at CHR... How many Christian songs have even gone top 10 CHR??? How many Christian artists even have a top 10 hit... as Clem and I know, this list is VERY exclusive... the fact that Switchfoot placed 2 songs in the top 10 last year was extraordinary... anyone expecting a duplication of this amazing feat obviously doesn't know where Switchfoot's focus lies.

The majorly of people never realized that they are a Christian Band. I always thought they were Pop/Rock. I think Stacie Orrico's songs went Top 10 too.

First of all, I would like to say that this is my favorite single from this band. Everything about it is good. However, as far as I'm concerned, Switchfoot is going to be one of those two hit wonders. If "Stars" had gone top 30 at pop with this song peaking in the 30's, I might have considered considering this album a sophmore slump but, let's face it, Nothing Is Sound has been an out and out flop. And it's really got nothing to do with the music. In my opinion, the two singles from this album are infinitely better than the ones from The Beautiful Letdown. Radio just completely missed the boat with this record. SWITCHFOOT IS DONE!

Switchfoot's been together doing Christian music for about 10 years... "The Beautiful Letdown" - the album with "Meant To Live" and "Dare You To Move" - shows their spirituality more than those 2 songs do... They are similar to Lifehouse in their sound, though I don't think Lifehouse's music is as "Christian" as Switchfoot's is... As for Stacie Orrico, she just missed having 2 CHR/Pop top 10's... "Stuck" was stuck on #11 for 2 weeks and then "(There's Gotta Be) More To Life" made it to #6...

And it's really got nothing to do with the music. In my opinion, the two singles from this album are infinitely better than the ones from The Beautiful Letdown. Radio just completely missed the boat with this record. SWITCHFOOT IS DONE! I don't know why people here are so uninformed about this band!!! Switchfoot is a CHRISTIAN band and they are far from done... First off, this is NOT their "sophomore effort"... Switchfoot's been putting out albums since 1997!!!... the fact that "The Beautiful Letdown" spawned two top 6 CHR/Pop hit singles in 2004 was a definite anomaly, given CHR/Pop radio's overall resistance to Christian music in recent years... here's the main thing people are missing and I don't quite understand why they are missing it... What Switchfoot did with those 2 singles going top 10 was VERY historic: NEVER before in the ENTIRE history of the CHR/Pop chart had a Christian artist spawned TWO top 10 hits off one album until SWITCHFOOT did it with the 2 hits from "The Beautiful Letdown". Jars of Clay didn't do it, DC Talk didn't, not even the great Michael W. Smith or the band Kansas... Yes, Amy Grant had several top 10 CHR/Pop hits, but these were after she gave up doing Christian music and stated doing mainstream pop in the early 90's... her only CHR pop hit as a Christian artist was "Find A Way" which got to #27 in 1985... Lifehouse has some Christian references in their lyrics but they are not considered a truly "Christian" band by those in the Christian industry... their songs usually only receive a smattering of airplay on Christian stations and usually do pretty well at CHR... Anyone expecting Switchfoot to duplicate the CHR/Pop success with the "Nothing Is Sound" album either hasn't studied the history of Christian artists on CHR radio over the past 20 years or was expecting Switchfoot to go the route of Amy Grant and turn into a pop artist, something which I knew wasn't going to be happening... The Pop success that they had on "The Beautiful Letdown" was totally unexpected by them and given past history, it would have been silly to think their new album would duplicate it or even come remotely close... Here's some Christian artist pop chart history just to put things in perspective: Stacie Orrico had a #11 CHR/Pop hit in 2003 with "Stuck"... that same year she followed it up with the #6 smash "(There's Gotta Be) More To Life"... she hasn't had another CHR/Pop hit since... Jars of Clay's "Flood" got to #19 in 1996... they have yet to have another CHR/Pop hit... DC Talk's "Just Between You And Me" hit #12 in 1996... they also have yet to have another CHR/Pop hit... Before Switchfoot and Stacie Orrico, Michael W. Smith and Kansas were far and away the most successful Christian artists on the CHR/Pop charts with 3 top 40 hits... Michael's "Place In This World" got to #7 in 1991, "I Will Be Here For You" reached #14 in 1992, "Somebody Loved Me" got to #25 in 1993... he hasn't had another hit since that last one... Kansas reached #5 in 1977 with "Carry On My Wayward Son"... In 1978 they reached #26 with "Point Of Know Return" and then the all-time best position for a Christian artist - #2 with "Dust In The Wind" that same year... Kansas had another top 40 hit with the #16 "All I Wanted" in 1986, but by then they had become a hard rock/pop band, abandoning their Christian roots several years before... Thus, the #5 peak position of "Meant To Live" was just the 3rd time that a Christian artist has reached the top 5 at CHR/Pop... With "Stars" getting to the top 40 and peaking at #38, Switchfoot actually TIED Michael W. Smith and Kansas for the most top 40 CHR/Pop hits by a Christian artist/group... If "We Are One Tonight" happens to somehow start growing again and gets to the top 40, then they will own the record for most CHR/Pop top 40 hits all to themselves... to me, given the fact that only Michael W. Smith has been able to even reach the top 40 with songs from 2 different albums, what Switchfoot has done with these last 2 albums is VERY historic and groundbreaking...

Thanks. Well, I was getting a little frustrated with having to say the same thing over and over again on posts on this thread... so I decided to just put it all out on one post.... Anyways, this song isn't dead yet at CHR... it's only down a spin over yesterday's numbers, so if the record company wants to give it a push, they indeed could get that record breaking 4th top 40 hit (it's only 12 spots short at the moment)...

Geez, by the way john77 describes this, it is as if Switchfoot has broken some mega record in the whole history of all music in all genres.
First off, yes, Switchfoot is a Christian band and yes they have had very good crossover success. But, 2 things: (1) This is not unheard of (as the examples you gave) and (2) most people who listen to mainstream music only would never know that Switchfoot was a Christian rock band. So, really, for the band to have two top 10 hits on pop radio, for mainstream listeners, this really is not THAT big of an accomplishment.
Your analysis has some faults in it, considering that you only look at top 40 radio. I find crossovers to other formats to be very impressive as well. Thousand Foot Krutch has been able to score two top 30 hits on Active Rock from two different albums. MercyMe has been able to go top 10 on AC with two different songs, both VERY religious.
Plus, regardless of what you say, Lifehouse is a Christan band. They are played on Christian stations, their albums are sold at Christian bookstores, and they continue to produce music consistent with a Christian music band. "Spin" went to #1 on the Christian rock chart. And, unlike Creed, they have never denied being Christian musicians. No, they don't have overly religious lyrics, but neither do bands like Switchfoot or even of late Relient K. Lifehouse has the "record" for most top 40 hits by a Christian band - 5. All of their singles except Take Me Away and Sick Cycle Carousel have made the top 40 on pop radio.

^^ I'm not one for studying Active Rock, but I'm VERY aware of MercyMe's success at other formats including their top 40 CHR/Pop hit, "I Can Only Imagine"...
Lifehouse's inclusion as a Christian or non-Christian band is very debatable and honestly, there is probably no "right" or "wrong" answer... You could debate it for weeks and no one will win that argument...
Defining what a "Christian" band is supposed to sound like is one of the most difficult things to do today... You may think they are a "Christian" band... I do not... there's a fine line defining what is "Christian" and what is not... At this point, Lifehouse to me is more mainstream Pop than Christian, while Switchfoot is more Christian than mainstream Pop... and that hasn't changed to me... Yes, the members of both bands may all be Christians, but that doesn't mean necessarily that the music they create is going to have Christian lyrics or messages...
There are all kinds of songs out there that can be interpreted as Christian, even if that's not the intention... for example, Michelle Branches hit "Everywhere"... you listen closely to the lyrics to that song and it sounds a heck of a lot more "Christian" than a lot of the Christian hits we have today...
I do agree about Relient K... they seem to be going much more "non-Christian" in their lyrics with this new album...
Switchfoot had 4 #1 hit's on the Christian CHR chart with their last album including the two that crossed over to the top 10 at CHR/Pop... Lifehouse hasn't duplicated that success at Christian CHR... "You and Me" for example couldn't even get to the top 20 there...
As for the sales, things aren't the same where I live as they are where you do... There are four Christian bookstores within about 25 miles of me - two stock Lifehouse's CD's and the two more traditional ones do not... on the other hand, all four stock the Switchfoot catalogs...
