I was a big fan of Laura Branigan and was very upset to hear of her death. Here are my favorites from her: 1) Self Control 2) Gloria 3) The Power of Love 4) Lucky One 5) Solitare

I remember a version of this song where she sings every line in the verses twice (i.e. "Oh the night/oh the night/is my world/is my world/city light/city light/painted girl/painted girl..."), but I only heard it once, on U93's Top 93 of 1984.

I was sad to hear of her passing as well. I agree with your picks for her best songs. I also loved "Shattered Glass" by her in 1987. :'(

Very sad. :'( But I do love "Self Control." It reminds me of the 6th and 7th grade.

I was never a big fan of Laura Branigan, but I did love this song, and I was incredibly sad to hear of her passing.
I agree with MandyfanUK, this is one of those songs that you know, you just don't know you know it, LOL. It was a pretty big hit, peaking at #4 on the Hot 100.
And if I remember correctly, the video to this was quite controversial at the time of its release. If my memory is serving me correctly, it was the first video to ever be banned from MTV (it was also directed by Oscar-winning director William Friedkin). I catch it every now and then on VH1 Classic, it's really not the kind of video you would picture her in.

I can't imagine it involving people with whips and chains like in "Erotica." :)

In the Video Laura goes to a sort of club/casino, spots a guy in a scary Phantom Of The Opera-ish mask, follows him into a room where there's some kind of orgy going on, she joins in, (It's all hinted at with dancing and flesh-coloured suits though, not outright porn a'la madonna). She then returns home where the masked stranger comes in and apparently has sex with her, but it's supposed to be a dream, some scenes strongly suggest that Brannigan is in fact masturbating. Then it ends with her waking up in bed with her boyfriend, but he turns his face towards her and he's wearing the mask.
It's a cool video. Very arty.

Loved it! I heard this song for the first time in 1997 through a white label remix on a mixtape. I didn't know who had done this song until just last year. I googled the words, and it came up.
Some new remixes came out in 2004 of this song. Trance mixes.

The song is still the bomb to this very day, huge jump from her earlier work before the Self Control era. I think this will always be the best Laura Branigan song.. such a shame she passed on though.

One of my favorite 80's song of all time. This was in the soundtrack for GTA Vice City in 2002.

This was my #1 song of July 4th weekend in 1984 and I created a special version of this song from my recording of the fireworks display I put together that weekend. It worked out really good during those O-o-h's part of the song. I even grab audio from the baseballl all-star that weekend "strike three" and added it in my mix. It's on some cassette tape that I have packed away years ago. I used to create special versions of some my #1 songs back in 1982-84 time period.
Today, computer technology makes creating your music so much easier just ask DJ earworm just imagine him doing his work on cassette tape. That's what I did back then...

One of my favorite Branigan tracks. Loved it back in 1984 (as a 9-year-old- who probably didn't understand the innuendo in the video, mind you).

This is my favorite Laura Branigan song. It peaked at #4 Hot 100, #2 Dance, and #5 A/C in 1984. It was also a huge international hit, peaking in the Top 5 in many territories.
