One of my favorite Cyndi Lauper songs. This was the fourth single release, and the fourth top 5 smash, from her She's So Unusual album. Just a beautiful track, and such a haunting chorus. The synths before the bridge are dated, but the song still holds up well. Peaked at #5 on Billboard, and was released without a video.

I love it... at one time, it was my favorite Cyndi Lauper song (since replaced by "Time After Time", which strangely I didn't really like back then).

I love it... at one time, it was my favorite Cyndi Lauper song (since replaced by "Time After Time", which strangely I didn't really like back then). I still don't like "Time After Time". I actually have a tape of me singing along with "All Through The Night", when I was twelve. It is just horrible, especially when I try to imitate the instrumental bridge. I also garbled up the lyrics something awful! At one time, I considered erasing it, but I decided to keep it around when I need a good laugh.

Love this song. I think it is probably my second or third favorite of hers. Time After Time is my favorite.
She really wasn't a great singer, but I really liked her songs anyway.

I love it. And she IS a great singer. Her voice is unique but REALLY powerful. The live version of this song on the remastered "She's So Unusual" proves it. Or, just listen to her belting on "I Drove All Night" or "At Last".

Great song. Shame it's not played more often (though besides stations likely picking "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "Time After Time" instead, the fact that the synths are overpowering at times might be playing a part).
I wonder why it never had a video though.

I love this song! It's probably my second fav song off of She's So Unusual Cyndi's voice is so great in it.
It peaked at #5 on the Hot 100 in 1984. It also hit #1 in Sweden.

Yeah I hear her label was trying to see , since she was such a visual artist they wanted to find out if she could have a hit without a video to go along with it. And despite that it did become a hit.

Listening to this just makes me want to put on "Keeping the Dream Alive." It's not a bad song, though.

Not bad but not her best. "She Bop" and "Change of Heart" were better.

Even though I know this song came prior, every time I hear it, it just makes me want to listen to "Keeping the Dream Alive," which I prefer.
That said, it's a fine song.

There's such a special, sincere quality about the song and it really should be more remembered than it is.
Cyndi said this song reminded her of a Beatles song ("Across the Universe", I think?).

The string of single from She's So Unusual was quite strong. Always liked this, and agree that it should be more remembered.

I like this. The synths are a bit much at times, but other than that it's always a good listen.

I think the synths add a great dream-like quality to the song. Sure, it dates the song to the 1980s but I kind of like that it has a nostalgic, classic feel to it!

Oh my I was gonna post in this thread last weekend. I was at a shopping center and I heard this song and I just stopped and listened :) I listen to it often in my iPhone too but it's a different feeling to hear it loud. The song transports me to a peaceful, hopeful, joyful place. It also helps that my late mother loved this song as well. Lots of nostalgia. Cyndi was my favorite act from 1983-85. Yes, I loved her more than Madonna at that time. She did no wrong to me with 7 singles. GJWHF, TAT, SB, ATTN, WYWM, Goonies and TC all reached the top of my charts, while MCE reached top 5. The first 4 singles were year end top 20s. Cyndi's tone may be an acquires taste, but she knows how to sing, and most importantly how to emote. You can feel her sadness, despair, anger, rebelliousness, ingenuity. She's awesome! Wish she had been able to come back at one point (after her remake to GJWHF). Shine had some really good songs, Into the nightlife is an earcandy. Sigh

I wasn't introduced to this until recently (a couple years ago). It's definitely dated, but I enjoy it.
