I checked and there was no thread for this! This song, written by Phil Spector and the grossly underrated songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, wake up!) was the most played song of the 1960s. That's right, not even the Beatles had a song played more than this. And they're biggest stuff had a few years head start on this. This was the Righteous Brothers biggest hit. One of the best written songs (You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips/ and there's no tenderness like before in your fingertips) There are few lyrics like that today. And the bridge and final chorus is all worth it. It's 3:55 long, though Spector listed it as 3:05 to get it played at first. He knew once he got it played on air one time, radio and people wouldn't mind it being 4 minutes long.

Classic. Although this is one of those rare cases where I happen to like the remake (by Hall & Oates) even better than the original.

Yeah, this is far superior to the H&O cover. Hadn't heard this great tune in awhile, thanks for the reminder.

Quite simplyβ¦a classic that will forever stand the test of time. I believe this is the most played song of all time on US radio. Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil have written so many amazing songs over the years, but this is their personal best. My favorite part in this song is when right before the final chorus when Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield go back and forth with the ad-libs.
On a humorous note, Vanity Fair calls this song βthe most erotic duet between men on record." LOL

^^ haha, that's hilarious. I never thought of it that way. Then you probably didn't think of it as an ode to gay sex, either - as Aaron pointed out to me in the "Relax" thread: Well, what other odes to gay sex are there? Hall & Oates did it better.
