I'm kind of embarassed to like this song so much, but I really thought the beat and the organ solo were hot to death... Anyone else like -- or even remember -- this tune?
It's a 1984 hit that Michael Jackson wrote & produced for his sister Rebbie. It was her only Hot 100 hit (#24), but it went gold.

Oh yeah! That was the shhh! I remember it from November of 1984 living in Wichita, KS. Great memories, there, my friend! I think it was Michael Jackson's tiger that was in the video.

Great song!
I just recently found out the background vocals at the end are done by Martha Wash.
All this time I was thinking it was Rebbie with those powerful vocals!

I love this song! The intro before the main beat kicks in is hot too.

I love the beat, but the lyrics are so bad, it keeps me from really liking the song as a whole.

It was pretty silly. My local Top 40 station never played it. The only time I ever heard it was on AT40.
Buckner & Garcia had a song called "Ode To A Centipede" on their "Pac Man Fever" album. It was just as embarrassing as Rebbie's version. :)

I liked it. I had friends that would do the centipede dance to this song.

But that was back when I was ten. Now it's too embarrassing to listen to any of the songs on that album. As for Rebbie's "Centipede", yeah, that's kinda silly, too. What, did it refer to one of the many stupid breakdancing moves from the mid-80s? The song only spent two weeks on the R&R chart, peaking at 36. Apparently, it sold more than it was played. I never bought it, though. I was more into slow jams, like "Do What You Do" by Jermaine Jackson and such.

"Do The Donkey Kong" was my favorite song from that album. Unfortunately, when I got rid of my only record player in the late 80s, I never heard the song again.

Rebbie is the older sister of Michael and Janet, and she had her own share of success on the charts. This Jackson classic was released in 1984 and hit #4 on the R&B charts and #24 on The Hot 100. Michael actually produced this for Rebbie and the production still sounds good today and she has a really nice voice. Check out the video, i loved it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP3Rilb-Xx0

This was the jam back in the day. This song basically started the popularity of the centipede dance.

I cannot believe I passed this topic like that. This is a CLASSIC! Hugely! In late 1984 this was on the radio and peaked in 1985 everywhere else. The instrumental was most likely played during intermissions of sports on TV. I'm sure it may have worked quite nicely. Even the instrumental sounds great. Rebbie, the eldest of the Jackson siblings did a remarkable job on the vocals as well.
#3 R&R Urban Airplay ( I was kinda hoping it may hit #1, oh well..)

lmfao the video is stupid, but I love every thing about this song.. even down the cheesy and nonsensical lyrics. Michael's backing vocals are so obvious in the song, but that's what also adds the punch to the song, the production works, and Rebbie (imo the best singer of the Jackson girls tech. speaking) sounds great even if that's isn't her at the end of the song lmao.

The video always cracks me up. Corny ass lyrics, but catchy as hell.

Another of the Jackson siblings. She released her single and album "Centipede" by the last quarter of 1984. The song was her most popular song and featured her brother Michael in songwriting, production and backing vocal credits. The video is ridiculous 80s It was not very popular back home, but it got stuck in my head in my childhood and reached a decent Top15 in my personal chart.

I liked this one. Martha Wash also did backup vocals for this.
