Not sure if this is the best forum for this, but I came up with this quiz over the weekend. Below is a list of lyrics from various 80's pop songs. Identify the title and artist of each song, and then tell me why I chose these particular songs. (There's a very specific theme connecting them.)
1. I sometimes see you pass outside my door 2. But what it is, is something true 3. I want a shot at redemption 4 Its your heart that talks you into to staying where you are 5. And I wonder when we are ever gonna change 6. They never taught us what was real 7. This wind is blowing my mind 8. I cherish the moments with you 9. Is it a lesson that I never knew? 10. Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied 11. We got the kind that lasts forever 12. Don't look too close into the palm of my hand 13. I've got this feeling that time's just holding me down 14. I must've been someone else 15. I wouldn't if I were you 16. I'm doing alright, the best that I can 17. I want to be the one to walk in the sun 18. Hope you're pleased with the crumbs she throws you

I'm never very good at these things, but I do recognize a couple of 'em.
10. Always On My Mind by Willie Nelson
17. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper

So I was trying to think of what Willie Nelson and Cyndi Lauper have in common, and I remembered: they both appeared on We Are The World, the record Michael Jackson produced for an African famine relief charity. Would that have anything to do with the theme you're talking about?

01. Lionel Richie - "Hello" 02. Stevie Wonder - "I Just Called To Say I Love You" 05. Tina Turner - "We Don't Need Another Hero" 07. Michael Jackson - "Man In The Mirror 08. Diana Ross - "Upside Down" 11. Al Jarreau - "We're In This Love Together"
I'm going to have to guess they all sang on "We Are The World" too.

Looking at the first three clues, I'm thinking that it goes beyond the fact that they sang on "We Are The World". The first lyric is from a Lionel Richie song. Lionel is the first singer on "We Are The World". Stevie Wonder is the second, and he's the singer of song #2. And Paul Simon takes the mic after Stevie's part. So the clues are in the same order that the artists have their solos in "We Are The World".
With that, I'll identify the remaining songs:
3) You Can Call Me Al/Paul Simon 4) Love Will Turn You Around/Kenny Rogers 6) Allentown/Billy Joel 9) Heartbreaker/Dionne Warwick 12) Brilliant Disguise/Bruce Springsteen 13) Footloose/Kenny Rogers 14) Oh Sherry/Steve Perry 15) Maneater/Hall & Oates (only Daryl sings the solo, however) 16) Jacob's Ladder/Huey Lewis & The News 18) Bette Davis Eyes/Kim Carnes
Oh by the way, you omitted James Ingram. He sings between Tina Turner and Billy Joel. Remember - Ingram did have other songs before "I Don't Have The Heart". He handled the vocals on two Quincy Jones pieces in the early 80s ("Just Once" and "100 Ways")
Bob Dylan and Ray Charles, however, are understandable, since Dylan had absolutely nothing charting in the 80s and Charles' only chart appearance in the 80s was on "I'll Be Good To You", and even that one was only climbing the charts at the tail end of the 80s and peaked in 1990. Besides, it wasn't even his own hit (Chaka Khan was singing with him)

Boy, you guys are good at this. You know, I was thinking that James Ingram sang on this, but the site I looked at credited his line to Al Jarreau. But you figured it out anyhow.
And yes, my attempt was to quote the artists in the order they sing on We Are The World. I intentionally left out Bob Dylan and Quincy Jones, and forgot that Ray Charles had a line or two.

I don't think Quincy Jones sang on the song. He did play a few instruments, I think.

Yeah. Quincy Jones's Back on the Block album was one of those albums like Santana's Supernatural (although it preceded it by a decade), where Quincy produced and played instruments on the album but it was a sort of all-star affair with various artists contributing to the album. The album spawned 3 R&B #1's. "I'll Be Good To You" was a cover of the Brothers Johnson hit from the 70's and featured Chaka Khan and Ray Charles. The other two were "The Secret Garden" with Barry White, Al B. Sure, El DeBarge, and James Ingram and another Brothers Johnson cover, "Tomorrow," which was originally an instrumental but Quincy Jones had vocals sung by Tevin Campbell added to his version. Quincy released another similar album in the mid-90's, Q's Jook Joint, which featured artists like Babyface, Tamia, and Brandy.
