Do you remember the 1973 instrumental Top 40 hit for Billy Preston called "Space Race"? This instrumental was later used as the background music at the end the first 1/2 hour before station idenification and the start of the second 1/2 hour of Dick Clark's "American Bandstand" TV show where you even see the "American Bandstand" dancers in the bleachers sway and clap their hands to the "Space Race" background music.

I love it. The clavinet is so of its time but so awesome. This was the sequel to his earlier hit "Outa Space". Peaked at #4 on the Hot 100 and #1 Hot Soul Singles in 1973.

I think this was in the original "When A Stranger Calls." Either this or Billy's other instrumental.
