Not one of her best hits, but it was alright.

This broke the string of her number one hits on Billboard's Hot 100, sadly this peaked at #7. I guess a bulk of her #1 were Narada Michael Walden produced songs. This was produced by Jellybean Benitez. I noticed that it was released in the UK first before it's US official release. I like it personally more than most of her huge hits as a matter fact all of her #1s. Even Casey Kasem sounded as if was not certain that this would be another one of her #1s. Deep down inside I had a feeling this would not make it on top.

Actually, this song barely made the Top Ten on Billboard, peaking at number nine, in its only week in the Top Ten.
I knew pretty early on that this song would not be another number one hit for Whitney. The song did not start off quite as strong as her previous number one hits. On R&R, the song was not yet in the Top Ten in its fourth week on the chart like her last four singles (all of which were well inside the Top Ten after a month on the chart). Once it hit the Top Ten, it was climbing quite slowly. When it edged up a spot to number seven, I was thinking, "That's it - it's not going to go any higher." And I was right; it spent another week at number seven and then fell super fast, spending just two additional weeks on the chart. That was probably partially due to the fact that her song from the 1988 Summer Olympics was starting to grow on the charts. That song also peaked at #7 on R&R. I guess since this was Whitney's fifth hit from an album that had been out for well over a year, it was to be expected that it wouldn't do quite as well as the other four. Since millions of people had bought the Whitney album, they listened to it many times and by the time that "Love Will Save The Day" was released, they were sick of it, and thus, did not call in to request it, so all of the above were likely instrumental in the song tanking before it hit number one. As for my opinion of the song, it was OK, but definitely far from being her best. Probably my least favorite song from the Whitney album, although I was disappointed that the song didn't make it to the top to keep her number one streak alive.

Nice song, though I hated the fact it didn't keep the streak alive, too.

Love this song, one of my favorites, but I have no memory of ever hearing this on the radio. The extended mix is great too.

love it, not my top fav. from the Whitney album though... but I do love all the songs off that album in varying amounts anyways.

It's a good song and despite the fact that it broke her streak, I think it served its purpose to squeeze a few more units sold out of the Whitney era. But it is truly a lost hit, I've only heard it a few times on the radio since it fell off the chart (and that was on XFM where they have a deeper gold catalog than today's radio stations do). The only other Whitney top 10 I've heard less is Miracle which disappeared the second it left the chart and was a bizarre single choice to begin with, pretty much killing the IYBT era on the pop side. If "My Name Is Not Susan" had come third instead I think things would have gone a lot better. (Top 10 only though, the album was too urban for Top 40 at that time)

Not as good as the previous singles and I also prefer 'Love Is A Contact Sport' to this, but it's a good song. I appreciate it for what it is.

Good song. Probably not the right single choice though... I'd have released "Love Is A Contact Sport" instead.

I played the full extended mix of this last night in my set and got a fantastic reaction from the crowd. It is such a feel good song with some of Whitney's effortless high notes.

Good song. Probably not the right single choice though... I'd have released "Love Is A Contact Sport" instead. I'm 7 years late but bingo. It's a cool song, but "Love Is A Contact Sport" would've been that 8th #1.

Several 90s dance records sampled the acapella of this song, which was probably why I am even familiar with song. That said, I do like song better than the overplayed-to-death "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" (radio overkill has prevented me from fully enjoying that one despite being a good track) although I never actually heard that song on the AC radio stations growing up (I did hear "So Emotional" and the other song I just mentioned on the radio, however). I still prefer "So Emotional" over this one (though that one was overplayed in its day too but not as much as "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" was). www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkTUuBxYgyg

The song is not bad, but it definitely gets lost in the shuffle compared to other songs. It didn't help the fact that this was a 5th single (following 7 straight #1s), there was no music video and that "One Moment in Time" got released less than 2 months later.
