Possibly the most succesful ode to gay sex in pop history. Massive UK #1 and US top ten. "Relax Don't do it When you wanna go to it Relax Don't do it When you wanna cum" Only in the 80's could this have done as well as it did. Anyway i like it. The video is quite the spectacle! "Two Tribes" is also excellent in a similar vein, and "The Power Of Love" is a gorgeous ballad.

Possibly the most succesful ode to gay sex in pop history. Well, what other odes to gay sex are there?
This is another one of those songs that's so infectious that I can't help but like it; but since hearing what the lyrics were really about (it was on VH1's 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders, I think), I try not to listen to them that closely.
I wonder if any stations over here banned it when it was released here (which, if so, might explain why it only hit #10).[/font]

I remember attending a press conference back in '84 when I was in college radio to hear these guys talk about the CD. It's one of the few major label records that I can remember that was so over-the-top that few realized it at the time until after it was a major success. Of course, they were unable to follow it up with the much less successful Liverpool CD. Aside from a few good songs, the great thing about Welcome To The Pleasuredome was the Trevor Horn production.

I liked this song. It's very upbeat. And that chorus is hilarious.
DJ/Remixer Peter Rauhofer did some remixes of "Relax" a few years back and a couple of the versions looped the "When you wanna come" line a lot. It was hilarious!

Wow, I didn't realize this song dealt with gay sex! I guess I never listened to the lyrics that closely (in fact, i don't even now the lyrics, just the "Relax, don't do it" part).
Anyways, the song is a little annoying in that 80s sound kind of way. I can do without hearing it.

I like it. "Girls & Boys" by Blur had its own homoerotic lyrics.

^ i don't think the song was about gay sex per se.... (but it sure became one since the singer was gay.) i think it was basically about sex, in general. LOL.

I loved it, although by the time it was a hit it had been in the gay clubs for a year or more and I was tired of it.

It's funny because I never really thought much of the lyrics in this song, of course I was a lot younger the last time I heard this song so I probably didn't understand. I don't think I can listen to this song anymore without having certain visions.

On AT20 with Casey Kasem last weekend, he played it as an extra. He mentioned an episode of "Friends" was made about this song as Rachel and Ross argued over the possession of a Frankie Say Relax t-shirt.

I heard that on AT20 this past weekend and cracked up! For any fellow FRIENDS fans, the episode Casey was referring to was "The One With The Tiny T-Shirt" in Season 3.

I heard the AT40 extra as well, I wasn't too impressed with the story.

Hilariously an iconic song! It started the trend with those "Relax. Don't Do It" t-shirts. And this was way before the invent of internet memes.

40 years ago this week, "Relax" debuted at #84 on the April 7, 1984 Billboard Hot 100. This was its first appearance on the Hot 100. It debuted again in 1985. 1st video: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relax_(song)#1 UK #67 Billboard Hot 100
