For all the airplay that "My Girl" gets on oldies radio, you would think that the Temptations had no other good songs. Not so...
Even though it's from 1969, "Cloud Nine" is the JAM! The intro to that song makes me wanna bounce. It's a psychedelic-flavored Motown groove about using drugs as an escape from a crappy life. This song clenched Motown its very first Grammy, if I remember correctly.
I still find it cool that, in the late-1960s and early-1970s, songs could have controversial themes like this and still become hits ("Love Child," "Stone Soul Picnic," "Strawberry Fields Forever"). I know it still happens today, but just with far less frequency.

I like this one, but I prefer other Temptations jams like "Ball Of Confusion" or "Psychedelic Shack".

^ Yeah "Psychedelic Shack" is a jam as well! I always thought it was funny that the Temptations sampled one of their own singles ("I Can't Get Next To You") for that record.

CLoud Nine got to #6 on the Hot 100 in 1969 which is by the way the #9 upside down my friend.

I can only imagine the impact it had on radio when this came out. On the softer side of the Temptations I love "Just My Imagination".
