Good song, although far from being my favorite by him.
The title always reminds me of a sitcom episode I saw back in the '80s (can't remember which one... "Too Close For Comfort" maybe?). The main character was birdsitting a parrot named Sunshine, which flies away when he goes outside. When asked how it happened, the guy says, "I went out to check the mail with Sunshine on my shoulder..."
It was funny when I saw it, but the joke sounds stupid now.

Man, this music is old and classic. It's too bad no one else remembers.

I remember it, but I'm not a John Denver fan. Most of his music sounds hokey to me. This tune is among his best, though. I seem to remember it being used in a movie-of-the-week (an old ABC series of made-for-TV films) about a woman dying of cancer.
You mentioned Thank God I'm A Country Boy. That would get my vote for best JD song. I prefer the studio version to the recorded-live hit single. It's a great little tune.

I'm not a BIG John Denver fan, but his music really does something for me. He he he @ hokey. I like it; very fun.

I like John Denver. Just good clean fun music. Even saw him in concert years ago. Did you know that he was the "Lance Bass" of his time because he was on the NASA short list to go up in the Space Shuttle, but instead NASA picked Christi McAuliffe, the teacher. He trained with the team of austronauts and then was eliminated when they settled on Christi. The Challenger space shuttle exploded on lift off. At the concert I went to, John dedicated a song to the lost shuttle austronauts and their images flashed on a video screen behind him as he sang. My friends and I and most of the audience were in tears. I'll never forget that moment.
Sunshire on My Shoulders and Take Me Home Country Roads are my favorite John Denver songs.

I prefer this over Jay Z's "Dirt Off Your Shoulder."

Now that I think of it, the sitcom I remember that scene from might have been "Three's Company".

Not "shoulder." It's "shoulders"!
