I just borrowed this album from a friend. Didn't it win album of the year a decade ago or so? Do you think it deserved it? What songs were singles? Wanted to get any feedback you have on it. I read somewhere that Rob Thomas said that if he was stranded on a desert island and could only have one CD with him he would pick this one. Interesting.
PS: What CD would you pick for the desert island? :) I would probably pick a compilation CD just for some variety.

Graceland only got to #81 on the Hot 100 in early '87

It did win the Grammy for album of the year in 1987 or so. "You Can Call Me Al" was the big hit from the album, though it didn't make it to the top ten. Did it deserve album of the year? I don't know, but this was in an era when older, established artists were favored.

I'd be hard-pressed to pick only 1 album for a desert island, but I've always considered Graceland to be one of my favorite albums. This and Rhythm of the Saints (which I believe was his follow-on) are both great albums.
