Someone requested this song on my Hot AC station today. I initially dreaded the thought of listening to a sappy, oversung love song, but I strangely found myself singing the "and I" part as the piano began to kick in. From then on, I was hooked. I totally have a renewed appreciation for Whitney's melismatic climax, and I also enjoyed her soft adblibs at the end of the song. It puts a great touch to what IMO is an emotional and amazing rendition.

I still think it's overrated and maybe wouldn't even put it in her Top 10. It was just what she needed for a monstrous hit at the time though.

I've never thought this was a great song, but it's just about the best evidence of Whitney's vocal talent...

I liked this song. Even though I did feel it was a bit oversung during the final chorus, I still liked it. Too bad Whitney doesn't sound like that anymore.

I think this song is overrated. Sure she belts the hell out of it, but what does that have to do with the song? I prefer her cover of "I'm Every Woman" to this cover.

Sometimes I think about getting a gun and shoot myself if I EVER hear that DAMN SONG! To some of my fellow posters among us, it's a good song, Whitney's a great singer, don't get me wrong. But she puts WAY DAMN TOO MUCH DRAMA in that song. I mean, for real, radio stations ran this Dolly Parton cover down to the ground big time (I'd rather hear Dolly's version any day). And also she is not that good of an actress, let alone Diana Ross, who did better along with an Oscar nomination for "Lady Sings The Blues." Believe me, Whitney's no Diana Ross, but vocally she can turn a cover into a number one song. If I remember corectly there were two covers from her on "The Bodyguard" soundtrack. I'll Always Love You and the Ashford & Simpson-penned/Chaka Khan performed I'm Every Woman. Both are not bad to listen to.

I didn't see anything in the reply? What did you say? I think when people respond with just the quote, they usually agree with that person's statement! I think? If thats what u mean I am planning on buying Whitney's GH album. I'm only 15 so don't really know her that well but that was the same case with madonna for me a year ago and now im a huge fan!

Well I know this song has become a complete cliché, but I still really like this. It's one of her best ballads - most of them sound very dated now.

Thanks goodness that singers on American Idol can't cover this song (Dolly Parton won't give them the rights), or else this song would've seemed even more dated to me.

I still think it's overrated and maybe wouldn't even put it in her Top 10. It was just what she needed for a monstrous hit at the time though. I wouldn't even count it as her best of the "Bodygaurd" soundtrack. "I Have Nothing" was much better imo

This was great when it came out but at some point it just got to be overkill. It's still nice to hear in small doses, and I like Dolly's original a lot, too.

I Will Always Love You was #1 for a then record setting 14 weeks in 1992-1993 and then Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey went for 16 weeks with "One Sweet Day" in 1995

I understand why so many people love this song as her vocals are amazing on this, but although I was always a fan of this one it was never something I went out of my way to listen to.

This song is very overrated, and probably one of the most misused songs ever. It's a huge wedding song because of the title, but in reality the song is about a break-up.
I much prefer Dolly's version over Whitney's.
