An undisputed classic. Her vocal performance is impeccable. This song remains one of the best examples of her vocal talents.

This song was the all time faster climber to number 1 on the Radio and Records Pop charts. It went 23-9-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-8-17-25-34. It was certified 4 times platinum for sales of 4 million copies. Extremely impressive!
But, I never cared for the song a whole lot.

Time for a needed bump.
My #1 song of all-time, and it shows. Need I say more?

Not really my favorite. Like a few others have said on here, I think it's her most overrated and so overplayed. I do get annoyed when my Dad keeps playing this song. I much prefer her other songs like "I Have Nothing" over it.

Amazing, beautiful song. Easily one of the best songs ever, no denying that.

That's the best version live! I lived for Prince's reaction.

The definition of a vocal performance. This song is one of my big memories of growing up.

I remember hearing it all my life and being in awe of that vocal explosion at the end coming after the saxophone solo. The music stops and the way her big money note "AND IIIIII..." drops is so iconic. IWALY wouldn't be in my top 10 by Whitney, but if that song isn't the definition of a bonafide classic I don't know what is.

I loved it when it first came out but over time it became overplayed, cliched, and overrated. Now, I only listen to the live versions or the movie version. I love "I Have Nothing" thousands of times more.

One of Whitney's strongest performances, especially during the last verse. Overplayed on the radio back then, whether it was Lite FM 93.9, B96, or WGCI, there was no way to escape this song during late 1992/early 1993. Nonetheless, this is unforgettable.

This record remains one of the best vocal performances out there.

Has there ever been a radio hit with this much acapella off the top? Foster wanted a musical intro but Clive said no way, just her voice off the top. Glad Clive won, timeless cover. The world misses you Whitney!

The world misses you Whitney! There were a few other radio hits I can think of off the top of my head that were completely a cappella and hits around this time (Shai’s “If I Ever Fall In Love” although there was also a remix, Boyz II Men’s versions of “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” and “In The Still of the Nite”, and 4 P.M.’s version of “Sukiyaki”). Bobby McFerrin also scored a #1 on the Hot 100 in 1988 with “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” which was completely a cappella as well.

I was already a Whitney mega fan when this came out, but the first few times I heard it I only liked the climax section of it and for awhile preferred “I Have Nothing” over it. I had heard parts of “IHN” months before when Whitney was on the Arsineo Hall show promoting an upcoming tv special and they showed a preview of the movie that used “I Have Nothing” through out it. I was obsessed with it. So I was looking forward to that being the first single. Through radio play and so many people gushing over “IWALY” I got the beauty of it and fell in love with it. I still go back and forth though between which is my favorite between the two.
