Following "Bame and Blame," this is my favorite R.E.M. song. It came out in the spring of 2001 and was on AT20 for a few weeks. I could never figure out what the song is supposed to be about. But the line that stands out most in my head is: "You're the greatest thing since bread came sliced."

This deserved a lot more than it got, even though what it got is far more than what any R.E.M. single released now gets.

It wasn't the best song from them, although it was pretty good. It kind of reminds me of "Texarkana" from Out of Time, although I prefer that one to this.

This is very weak IMHO.

I never really got into this song. They have better material than this.

This song was awesome. Extremely underrated. agreed. I think this hit #41 on POP, and #19 on Hot AC. Awesome video.

agreed. I think this hit #41 on POP, and #19 on Hot AC. It definitely didn't make it past new & active on Pop and I'm pretty sure it peaked in the 20s at Hot AC.

And it peaked at #21 on Alternative (after debuting at #29).
For those that never saw the video, it was about 20 seconds at a birthday party run forwards and backwards continuously and we see the various things that are going on. Of course, you gotta see it to appreciate it. It's a really, really cool video.

The video was mind-blowingly good. The fact that they synchronized all those activities at the same time is simply stunning.

I agree, but it still ranks way down there in my mind when compared to many of their classics.

Amazing song. This should have been a much bigger hit (along with "Supernatural Superserious").

Good song but my favorite 00's R.E.M. song is "The Great Beyond".

I liked this song a lot. Loved "The Great Beyond" too. The video for this is classic as some of have said. What a concept...and perfect execution!

This song and the Great Beyond have a lot in common, IMO. Really enjoyed this. Had it come out earlier, it would've been a hit. Fun tune.
