A #2 smash for three weeks on the pop chart. Nine years ago this week in 1996 it moved 28-21 on the AC chart eventually going to #1 for nine weeks as mentioned on the US Music Survey.

I think it's overrated. It's not one of my favorites by her. It was just the perfect kind of sap to be a huge multiformat hit in the 90's.

I liked this one.
The Soul-Hex Anthem made me love the song more.

I grew tired of it after a while. First time I listened to Secrets, I LOVED it. I absolutely loved the way "There's No Me Without You" flowed into it.
A few weeks later I remember reading an article where Babyface was quoted pretty much saying it was a crap song. I definitely doesn't stand out as my favorite on the album, but it is my favorite of Toni working with Diane Warren, with "I'm Still Breathing" in close 2nd, and "Spanish Guitar" in a distant 3rd. Are there any others?

Are there any others? Nope...Toni has only done three with Diane. Two amazing ones....with "Spanish Guitar" just being okay. This was Toni's career record. She will never have a hit this big. I think this is the best song title Diane's ever come up with too. :)

Hmm, I thought this was the week that "Un-Break My Heart" debuted on the US Music Survey at #17 (moving up from 21). But then I realized that it could be either week, because this year's calendar pattern is very different from 1996. It was a week away from debuting on the October 12, 1996 edition of the countdown and this year, Saturday was the 15th. Since the 15th is closer to the 12th than the 19th, that's why they went with the chart that they did. I wonder what song they'll play for the 1996 Flashback segment on next week's show. I seem to remember "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion spending a 36th and last week on the chart that week, but I assume they've played that already (then again, they did play "The One" by the Backstreet Boys twice this year as a Flashback song, but I think 1996 had more charting songs than 2000).

oh, and the spanish version was hella cute.... hahaha.... no me abandones asi! lol I heard that recently...I forgot where. Oh yeah, it was a male remake of it. I guess I heard it on the radio. I wanna hear TONI's Spanish version! :( As for the English version, JAM! I remember singing along to it when I was in 5th grade and it was playing on the 6th grade English teacher's radio as she chaperoned our teacherless room. Everyone thought I was hella hip to know all the words to it! I was such a good lil' kid singer. My sis made fun of me for printing out the lyrics to it back when it was out. :( This NYU freshman did it at NYU welcome week karaoke night and MURDERED it. I don't know how she could make it sound so bad. My mumbling along to it sounded better.

This song is so boring and sappy. Her ballads really went down hill during this era. I think she bounced back a little with Just Be a Man About It thanks to Dre. I was really into that song back in 2000.

I seem to recall Rick Dees played the remix.

none of Diane Warren's songs are amazing except that she got to work with most of the best vocalists of our times, and get amazing performances from them. THat's what is important about this song, is Toni's delivery, not the song overall.

Oh I'm the only one who adore it ? :o
The low voice is so beautiful and makes the song.
I remember reading that it was Babyface who said to David Foster that Toni had to sing it in low voice.
I read too, that Diane Warren proposed this song to Céline Dion but she refused.

I grew tired of it after a while. First time I listened to Secrets, I LOVED it. I liked this song at first, got tired of it fast, then started liking it again. The song from the album Secrets that I don't like is "I Don't Want To", which is a surprise. I tend to like songs with such chord progressions, but I find the song very boring and depressing.

I like the video, but not so much the song. I do like the dance mix, though.

Good but not her best. I like "He Wasn't Man Enough" better.

This was a song that I used to consider rather overrated, but I've recently found a new appreciation for it. I like the Latin-like vibe, Toni's lower register, her growls and most of all her passionate belting at the end:
"Without you I just can't go OoooOOOOoOOOOn"
A huge hit, and rightfully so. :)

One of the most overplayed songs of the 90s. I much preferred "You're Makin' Me High" and "I Love Me Some Him" over this.

Shanice Wilson sings backup on this. Fantastic Diane Warren ballad. Spanish Guitar is gorgeous too. Love the dance mixes for both as well.

David Foster had Toni sing her ass off on this one. I love it, no matter how cheesy and AC it is lol
