This was actually her lead single, originally it didn't do well, but they sort of re-pushed it after the success of her second single, and then it hit top 5 on the Hot 100 (IIRC).

Actually wasn't it her 2nd single after "Knocked Out" missed the Top 40?Β Then "Straight Up" took off, so they re-released this after "Forever Your Girl" and "Cold Hearted".
I like this a lot, but I think it's probably my least favorite of the six singles from the album.

I believe they also re-released "Knocked Out" but it didn't have any success the second time around. It's kind of a shame. That's my favorite Paula song and I never knew how Pebbles could get to #2 with "Mercedes Boy" but Paula couldn't hit the Top 40. They're very similar songs to me.

I really like this song. But aside from "Opposites Attract," I like all of the singles from her first album.

Is this the same song as Faith Hill cut for "Breathe"? ??? LOL, far from it. And Faith's song was "The Way You Love Me". :) I love this song. Moreso the album version, but the single mix is good too.

This song was ok but nothing special. "Cold Hearted" is still my favorite to this day

They only re-released Knocked Out overseas.
They should have re-released Knocked Out here instead of re-releasing (It's Just) The Way That You Love Me.
The song is ok, but Knocked Out was much better.

The single version is off the hook. I played this three weeks ago along with "Opposites Attract" with that cheesy rap by MC Scat Cat.

I liked this. In its original fall 1988 run, it stalled at #88 on the Hot 100, but reached #10 on the R&B chart. In its re-release the following year it hit #3 on the Hot 100.

this is my all time favorite Paula song! it was such a big hit but gets over shadowed by her number ones. her AMA performance of this song is one of the greatest award show performances ever (IMO).

Heard this (and Paula's other 80s hits) as flashbacks on the AC/Hot AC stations (Lite FM 93.9, 100.3, and 101.9 the mix) and probably B96 too growing up. This one's decent but I do prefer several of her other songs like "Straight Up", "Knocked Out", and "Opposites Attract".
