One of my favorite songs of all time. Her vocals are just amazing.
I would definitely say this is her signature song (though We Belong Together might challenge it).

I've never really liked this song all that much. When it came out, I thought that the lyrics were very trite compared to all her earlier releases. It just seems contrived and not very sincere... But I will agree on one thing: Great vocal performance.

I like it but mostly because it's really good vocally. Mariah herself doesn't really even like the song. She wrote it for Gloria Estefan to use in the movie of the same name. Tommy Motolla heard Mariah's demo though and told her to keep it for herself because it was too good to give away. When Mariah performs it now, she usually does it in a more gospel style which is how she originally intended it to be. She even sang it in London one with electric guitar at the end.

Its funny because Mariah and Whitney has some of the most boring ballads but yet they're so huge. As I mentioned before I nevered really cared for a Whitney or Mariah ballad even though I love Vision Of Love and some of my favorite Whitney songs came during the mid to late 90s.

"Hero" is just so bland and bla bla but the vocal performance saves the song becauses her vocals are almost kind of subdued. I bet it sounds a lot better if she made it gospel style.

I guess this song is alright.
For me, "Always Be My Baby" is and will probablly always be her signature song.

The song's essentially a spin-off of "Greatest Love of All." The message is good, but it's presented in such an uber-corny manner- nothing of note about the sound of it, as it's very basic. However, Mimi's vocals were great.
The USA definitely was its main area of impact- i.e. in Europe, it barely cracked the top 20 on the Eurochart.

This is a great song even if it is a bit corny. Whenever I'm depressed, I listen to this song and it cheers me up every time.
"Hold on, dreams are hard to follow. But don't let anyone tear them awayyyyyyyyeeeeayeeeayyyeah."
Heather Cox tried to do this on American Idol and didn't do it justice.

I know it's Mariah's anthem, but I've never really liked this one. I guess I've always thought it was more cheesy than inspirational... I know most people will disagree, but I think "Anytime You Need A Friend," "Without You," and "Never Forget You" are all better records.

I also agree with AYNAF and "Without You". "Hero" is OK. I liked it more when it first came out.

Hero reached #1 on the Hot 100 around Christmas 1993 on the same week her Music Box finally reaching #1 on the Billboard 200 and it's Mariah's best tune in her career

I remember I loved this song when it was out but it has not aged well with me. There are much better songs from that album.
