when they were popular, but you like them anyway.
I heard the song "Tempted" by Squeeze the other day. I never knew it in 1981, but it had a comeback in 1999. Can't believe the song totally flopped. Very good song.
"Mama Used To Say" by Junior from 1982. I never heard of this song until May 2000. I have to listen to it every few weeks now.
"Steady" by Jules Shear from 1985. Excellent song, but only hit number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Symptoms Of True Love" by Tracie Spencer. Hit number 35 in 1988, don't know how I missed this one back then, but heard it last October. Great to hear that one again.

Alot of classic rock and old time music that was out before I was born. Mainly stuff like Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, (some Diana Ross and The Supremes), Rolling Stones...Stuff like that.

A lot of them, but a classic one is "Blister in the Sun" by the Violent Femmes. Released in 1983, but I thought it was current when I heard it in 1999.

Some of the midcharting pop hits from the early '80s, which I somehow never heard until the past few years. Couple of examples are "Fool In Love With You" by Jim Photoglo and "I Couldn't Say No" by Robert Ellis Orral & Carlene Carter.

That goes for me too... lotta good stuff before I was born, from the artists listed above, to the Beatles (and a bunch of other British Invasion acts), Zeppelin, Beach Boys, most anything Motown, and those early girl groups (Shangri-La's, Shirelles, Ronettes, etc). Then, there are those songs I wasn't aware of when they were popular, due to my being young. This applies mostly to late 80s/early 90s material, such as early solo Morrissey, EPMD, Sonic Youth, anything Midnight Oil besides "Beds Are Burning"; I was a few years late on the Sundays' "Here's Where the Story Ends", Catherine Wheel's "Black Cadillac", Jane's Addiction's "Jane Says"... I could probably go on for a while.

I never knew about "Something's Going On" by Frida until 2001 when Star 94 in Atlanta played it on their now-defunct "Friday Night 80s" show. I also didn't know about "Saved By Zero" by the Fixx until it was played on a car commercial a few years ago.
