For whatever reason, like most Hollies' songs, I find this extremely beautiful & depressing. I know their reputation is built on their knack for creating some of the most engaging & adventurous pop songwriting of the British Invasion, but I always sensed the misery beneath the sunny delivery. It's probably partly due to their deft usage of minor chords, which always lure me in. A lot of people from my generation also associate this song with The Virgin Suicides, so if it's approached from that context, the depression factor escalates through the roof.

? oh my bad, I left out the "The" lol I think cartman meant to say that this song peaked at #6 on the Hot 100. Also made it to #5 in R&R. My first exposure to this song was a cover by Olivia Newton-John... it was on her album Have You Never Been Mellow, and my mom played that 8-track all the time. Wasn't until years later that I finally heard the Hollies definitive version. I like it.

Very nice song... probably my favorite by the Hollies. I agree with the 'beautiful and depressing' description.

Really fantastic ballad from them.
Hollies Top 5 for me:
1. Bus Stop 2. He Ain't Heavy... He's My Brother 3. Look Through Any Window 4. Stop Stop Stop 5. The Air That I Breathe

Radiohead's "Creep" got that group in trouble because the falsetto part sounded so familiar... to this.
