I HATE the falsetto on this track, but I love the melody and the lyrics. I prefer some of the more understated cover versions, like Amy Adams on the AI3 album. Simply Reds version is horribly oversung though.

This is my favorite Stylistics track. The only cover I have ever heard of it, is a jazz version by Everett Harp, which is outstanding.

Simply Reds version is horribly oversung though. It seems like most white r&b vocalists horribly oversing songs, not to make a color issue of it, it just seems that way tho. I love the Stylistics version the best, Babyface had a mediocre version on his debut disc years ago. My fav Stylistics tracks are still "Stone In Love..." and "Break-up..." |

I hate the falsetto too, although it's still better than the Simply Red version.

This record got to #2 in the pop chart in 1974. It should have a #1 in my opinion

They had plenty of great songs -- I like this one, but it's not my favorite by them.
