Her third single from the Waiting To Exhale soundtrack. Absolutely heartbreaking. The lyrics are so true and her performance is awesome. Hot 100: #26 Hot 100 Airplay: #69 Hot 100 Sales: #19 Hot R&B Singles & Tracks: #22 Adult Contemporary: #6 Here's the MTV Movie Award performance that also served as the video. 66.7.181.197/010642/asf/300/299/012597.asf

I love the RAW, soulful feel of this song. The studio recording sounds like a one-take version to me. There's just something about the rawness of her voice that draws me in.
One of my favorites from Whitney.

One of my all-time favorites from Whitney. Right there with a few other awesome songs from this album. I loved the live performance too. I wish this would've performed better.

Performances like this is the reason why Whitney is the best vocalist to ever put her voice to music! WOW she was amazing! I am so excited for her return!

You really can't go wrong with anything on the soundtrack to "Waiting To Exhale." This is one of Whitney's finest recordings! I love the "breathy" background vocals...so brilliant!

Splendid, one of her greatest ballads. Her souful yearning for heartbreak remedy sends chills throughout your spine.

Apparently, Casey Kasem has forgotten all about this song. On this week's AT10, he listed off Whitney's "four" hits whose titles were questions. This song was not listed.

Me too. Well, maybe except for the line "You make me wanna...shoot you!" (Yes, I know that's not what she really says. It sounded like it, though.)

Hmm. I always thought that she was saying "you make me wanna shoot you".. I've been wrong with lyrics before though. I hate it when you find out you may have been singing something wrong for years, and you consider a favorite. For much too long, I thought the last track (my favorite Toni track) on Secrets was "In the late of the night". When I realized the 2nd "the" wasn't in the title, it really felt weird. This one would be even worse considering its been about 10 years.

It's 1990's Whitney, therefore I love it.

Nine years ago this week in 1996 it peaked at #3 on the AC chart as mentioned on the US Music Survey.

The MTV performance is breathtaking. This has to be one of Whitney's best vocal performances. Such emotion!

This was around the time she started looking a mess. It's around the time she started doing drugs on a daily basis (according to Whitney herself a couple of years ago.) This song took me a really long time to truly appreciate. I prefer the other Waiting to Exhale singles, but it's a beautiful song.

Excellent song. It was a big AC hit, but only hit number 49 on the Radio and Records Pop Chart.

Babyface said tonight he actually presented Whitney with this during the I'm Your Baby Tonight sessions and she passed on it because she couldn't relate to it. She asked him about it again when they were recording the soundtrack and said she was ready for it.
