Since the ToP thread got a resurgence, I figured I'd toss this one out and see if it gets any replies. Simply beautiful down south (I think) funk blues track that worked it's way into the mid 20's on the BB pop chart in late 74 or early 75 if memory serves. I picked up his greatest hits album, and there's some good stuff on it, but this is THE track and it's easy to see why; Latimore's got a great smoky-deep voice, the song has a super horn riff laced in it throughout, and listening to it again, it sounds like it was one of the early disco era tracks, with its pea soup dance beat. The song really builds in its 5 minute version and is IMHO one of those forgotten gems that someone else had got to remember. So is anyone here that someone else? I just realized what a doofus I was, I was clearly thinking about the song "Somethin' Bout Cha" and posted title as the almost as awesome "Let's Straighten It Out." Totally embarrassing, I only figured it out when I was making mp3s of both tracks, and said, wait a minute, uh oooh! My apologies, and now does anyone remember this track??

I remember it. You're right, it's one of the "forgotten" greats. Here in Jackson we're lucky to have an authentic rhythm & blues station that plays Latimore. My favorite track from him: Gin and Juice.

that was fast! I'm not familiar with "Gin and Juice" it's not on the Rhino GH. Is it an album track? They are usually really good with their comp packages. He did a version of "I Get Lifted" that the 2 main guys from KC and the Sunshine Band wrote and George McRae had a decent hit with. I like McRae's more but liked Latimores too.

Now this is the type of music I truly enjoy. I agree that Latimore is one of those overlooked gems of the old R&B guard. I remember being at my grandmothers when I was a little child and they would run Latimore and Clarence Carter into the ground. I enjoyed "Somethin' Bout Cha'" and "Let's Straigthen It Out" which was FABUOUSLY covered by Monica and Usher on her "Miss Thang" album.

This tune from Latimore actually made #37 on the pop chart back in 1977. But I've yet to hear at all on the radio in my lifetime.

Anyone who likes some Latimore is OK in my book.
