Apparently she was a one of the biggest "disco"artists of the 1970s without an intial radio hit on any format, which of course her main stay was Urban. The female singer resides in Los Angeles and was signed with SOLAR Records (Sound Of Los Angeles Records). Her label mates included The Whispers, The Midnight Star, & Lakeside to name a few. Her biggest hit was a 1960s remake of "Hello Stranger" featuring The Whipers reaching number 20 in 1985 mainly due to sales and less airplay nationwide (though it recieved tons of airplay in Wichita, KS). Last year she released a Greatest Hits collection on Capitol Records, question is where is she now? Was she underated or did she not have it? IMO based on what I've heard at a number of her songs were not radio friendly.

Carrie Lucas had an incredible voice, but most of her material was third-rate.Β I was a disco dj when she was big on the club circuit.Β My own playlist leaned heavily toward urban, funk and dance rock so she usually didn't fit in very well.Β There were one or two exceptions, though; I can remember spinning her disco hit It's Not What You Got, It's How You Use It several times a night.

"Summer In The Streets" is one of my favorites by Carrie. And then there is "Dance With You" which was sampled by Armand Van Helden back in 1999 for his smash hit "You Don't Know Me."
Both of these get a lot of radio airplay on dance stations
