Timeless R&B jam from The Wiz, covered by Diana, Whitney and other soul divas.

Stephanie owns it, IMO. But I loved Whitney's superb version.

This was her final #1 R&B hit, in 1989. After having a major resurgence in the late 80s, she really fell off at the turn of the 90s.
Great song. I prefer the original Broadway version over the hit single version.

I prefer the original Broadway version over the hit single version. Me too. The single arrangement is unnecessarily drawn-out and reminds me of the awful (IMO) takes on the song by Whitney Houston and Barbra Streisand. This is a brilliant track and is like the vocal showcase for a singer. I love the build-up, especially from the "Living here..." part until the end. My favorite version is Diana Ross'. She killed that s**t! I would like Stephanie's version better if I liked her voice; with the exception of 2-3 songs, that woman's voice grates on my nerves.

My favorite version is definitely Diana's from the film version of The Wiz. Every singer always tries to stretch this song out and it KILLS the melody of the song. No way this song should ever be over four minutes. And I think Diana delivers more in the finale of the song that Stephanie does in the broadway recording (which is better than her studio version).
