When exactly did the R/R CHR pop chart switch from 30 to 40? I know it was in '83, and I want to say that it was sometime in June or July, but I"m not sure.

It was June 10, 1983. Before then, the chart had been a Top 30 ever since October 15, 1976. Something about tight playlists was the reason. I guess the fast charts in 1982 were part of what made them decide that it was safe enough to re-extend the chart.
However, the countdown show that I listened to didn't switch from 30 to 40 until the first week in 1984. I guess their contract for a three-hour show lasted through 1983 (which sounds logical, since I believe the show (Countdown America with John Leader) began the first week in 1983).
