The only songs that hit #1 for Tears For Fears were Everybody Wants To Rule the World and Shout. Head Over Heels only went to #3. All great songs done in '85 from their "Songs From The Big Chair", but I love HOH. Sowing The Seeds Of Love was also a fave of mine that only went to #2 back in '89.
I'm sure that helps you out.

Guys, if you're curious about Tears For Fears, by all means seek out their 1st three singles, "Change," "Pale Shelter" and "Mad World." All 3 were big international hits that missed in the US because radio hadn't opened up to the New Wave movement yet. All deserved at least top 40 status, and "Change" with its marimba type rhythm is a gorgeous song.

Of course, you're referring to Billboard. But I did hear a national countdown that had "Head Over Heels" as #1 (don't remember the name of the radio countdown; it was shortlived; similar to Rick Dees'). I love that song, too. I first heard them on "Mad World", played for a short while on a local radio station, and I loved that song. Fortunately, there was an import copy at the store, and I bought it. I also like "Change" very much. "Sowing the Seeds of Love" was another huge hit, and extraordinary song, as it goes through many movements through the course of the song. I think it was kept from #1 on Billboard by Janet Jackson's "Miss You Much", but it might have hit #1 on other national charts.

That countdown had many number one songs that didn't top R&R or Billboard (The ones I remember off the top of my head were "Dress You Up" by Madonna and "All I Need Is A Miracle" by Mike + The Mechanics). That show was pretty short-lived; started sometime in 1984, I think and ended the last week in 1986.
