I will have more hints a bit later, at the moment here are some more huge hits!
15 This year made a great comeback and hit number one on the Urban AC charts! However it was one year in the mid 1980s that she really got noticed with this ballad that made the top ten on both the R&B and Pop charts.Anita Baker - Sweet Love
14 Daryl Hall & John Oates and Regina Belle covered this early 1980s knock out slow jam! Teddy Pendergrass - Love TKO
13 This remake topped the pop charts in the late 1980s, but fell short of course on the R&B side surprisingly. It seems that most of their songs are about fallen friendships from jealousy & envy.Club Nouveau - Lean On Me
12 In the mid 80s this group with staying power on the Motown label sang this song that ladies and gentlemen seem to love. The Temptations - Treat Her Like A Lady
11 She was totally surprised to find out about the man she loved. She certainly was not his one and only, however it was her one and only US Top R&B hit in the mid 1980s. Jocelyn Brown - Somebody Else's Guy

Going back to #23, was it "Happy" by Surface?
#17 might be "Betcha She Don't Love You" by Evelyn Champagne King.
#11 might be "Somebody Else's Guy" by Jocelyn Brown.

More hints for #19 & #16
19) It was only the beginning according to the song, and it wasn't over!
16) Will Downing and Debelah Morgan remade this one on separate occasion in the 1980s and 1990s respectively, both flopped! I will have the Big Ten later on tonight!!
27) She is now treating diabetes and spoke out on the awareness now in her early 60s.
22) This is another hot duet by two label mates, as a matter of fact this she has only made the Pop Top 40 (Billboard) from the two duets. The male artist only had two R&R Top 40 pop hits on his own.

Another shot at #19:
Either "My Girl" by Suave or "Heaven Help Me" by Deon Estus. If not, I keep a list of one hit wonders on the Hot 100, and there are no other 80's R&B songs that would qualify given the clue.
Note: I was only looking at Top 40 hits, not Hot 100 hits, so I misread the question!

We still have #27 open! The 61 - year old R&B female veteran told (probably her now ex-husband) this in a song, but in real life she probably stopped "loving" him a long before they finally went their seperate ways. He knew who it was, if that!
Now the Big Ten!!!
10)The talk box innovator of this group was killed just before the turn of the new millenium. One of the rap groups in the late 80s sample this jam from the early 80s.Zapp - More Bounce To The Ounce
09) They were one of a feew groups on the SOLAR record label that made it big on both the pop charts & R&B more than any group on that label. The twins from this group did their thang for a while in the early 90s. But it was this hit from the early 1980s that tore up the dancefloors. It was the lead single from their then brand new album! The Whispers - It's A Love Thing
08) This was remade live and the man in still recording in his 60s. He one of the best jazz/R&B singers. In the song he probably would have made it unlike Debbie Gibson & Donny Osmond. George Benson - On Broadway
07) Joe used this sample on his remix to his first pop hit (solo). The singer to this song is not married to person this song is about, it's probably fictious for all we know.
06) This is another one fo those SOLAR artists but this time they hail from Cincinatti, Ohio. This was theur first major hit, and surprisingly it never made the Pop top 40 but theri lead off single for their next album did.Midnight Star - Freak-A-Zoid
05)In the late 80s when you first saw the title of this song on their record you thought that it was a remake from that group with the twins in it. Well it wasn't, but she made the title of this song popular first. The queen knows best!Aretha Franklin - Rock Steady
04) Alexander O'Neal sang back- up for the group to this dance/ R&B hit. They are also labelmates!
03) This song has been sampled sooo many times! Jessica Simpson, P.Diddy. Ashanti, and even Crossfade! Club Nouveau - Why You Treat Me So Bad
02)It hit number one pop but of course it hit #2 on the R&B listings. It's a movie song from a movie that was remade in the 90s. This guy's still has a voice that ladies seem to love!
Well my friends this what you've been waiting for! The number one Greatest R&B #2 song ever!!
01) This duet was remade in a remix featuring a rapper. These days the title of the song IMO seems soo fictious it's not even funny, because in this world nothing does. This slow jam was made by a former broker. Keith Sweat feat. Jacci McGee - Make It Last Forever

Ah, I get #9 now... if it's not Midnight Star, it's gotta be The Whispers, and my favorite song by them, "It's A Love Thing"!

And #5 would be "Rock Steady" by Aretha Franklin... and #6 is Midnight Star's "Freak-A-Zoid". :)

4) This record was from the mid 80s. It also topped the 12 ich single sales chart. The LP version of this song really should have been the 12 ich version for it's just a bit over 6 minutes and the 12 ich version which isn't too much different it's just a bit over 6 1/2 minutes. The video clip that they use in the bars was actually taped during their performance on The Top The Pops.
