In the creation of this special chart, this like my other special chart (Greatest Pop songs Ever) was one of the most difficult decisions that I have had to make. The chart was not only based on my personal opinion and enjoyment, it was also based on the songs popularity and familiarity. I also recorded it with (my voice as the DJ/ Personality) which a bit more challenging w/o a proper script, however with an applicable amount of knowledge to allow the show to take place right in living room w/ two CD players and one computer. So there it is folks Josh Joel's Top 40 Number Two R&B Songs Of All Time. This is the guessing game!!!
40 This was included in a rap movie however not on the soundtrack album. She had zero number one R&B hits. Prince sings on this one but uncredited. Sheila E - A Love Bizarre
39 This is a duet and this makes it one of only two of her top 40 hits and both of which are only duets. This is first duet on the subject of availability on one weekend day. Cherelle & Alexander O'Neal - Saturday Love
38 This family British mixed group had zero US Top 40 pop hits but a string of UK pop hits. Mandy Moore messed this one up! Five Star - Let Me Be The One
37 One of the first freestyle pop crossover hits in the mid 80s making the top ten on the pop, dance, and of course R&B charts. She just goes by one name. Shannon - Let The Music Play
36 This was featured on one of four sequel comedy movies featuring two rappers from Queens New York. This group had one only great song in the early 1990s for the Motown label. Today - Why You Get Funky On Me
35 She has been clean off of drugs reportedly since 1985. I'll bet that her dad proud of her especially after taking this tune all the way to #2 as you know it, coming back strong. Thanks to the Calloway brothers work! Natalie Cole - Jump Start

You guys are good! BTW Thanks for moving this topic, I tried to myself. Anyway. Here are some clues for the unanswered and new clues.
40 Her father, uncle, and brother are all noted musicians. If you were wondering, she could've been the Christina Auguilera of the 1980s except Urban excepted her with open arms as well as Prince and Magic Johnson on his short lived TV talk show.
39 This was produced by Nick Martinelli from Philly, he produced about 1/3 of their first album.
36 The movie featurign their hit record starred Tisha Campbell and Martin Lawrence as co - stars.
34 She talks kinda funny, but this woman can sang! And that's the truth! Her then husband is also heard on the track as well. Michel'le - No More Lies
33 You saw their wacky outfits in the early 1990s as seen on MTV and of course BET, however they were some fine females especially the lead singer for this one. Now don't you get this confused with one of the Temptations' songs, now. TLC - Ain't Too Proud To Beg
32 This the English rock guitar band's only major Urban hit ever. Unfortunately one did what the title of this song suggested in 1991 after a secret battle that millions are still battling today as we speak. Queen - Another One Bites The Dust
31 This group from the ATL had their own label and did not mind in the mid 80s being single. Cameo - Single Life

OMG! Oops I meant #38 for the hint, not #39. Thanks for catching that, look over this much carefully in the future. Unfortunately Loose Ends is incorrect they spent a week number one om the R&B charts.
At the moment I'm going to skip any more hints for #31, for it's pretty easy if you really think about it.
30 English soul singer sang back for at least one pop English female singer in the mid 80s. However in the early 80s he had two R&B top tens. This one, hit the top 30 on the pop charts and the top ten his homeland. Junior - Mama Used To Say
29 This is one of those Funk CD collections, and imitated one of the Commodores' song. Back in those times you didn't hear too many controversial songs like this on the radio. It definitely had a hidden message! He spent eight weeks at number 2. Carl Carlton - She's A Bad Mama Jama (She's Built, She's Stack)
28 Yes they had a number one R&B song in the early 80s with their first album with the title track. They tried to do it again and talk about open infidelity on their second LP. My parents warned me about their music especially the first album! The founder of the group wrote the performed the theme song to New York Undercover. Mtume - You, Me & He
27 In the early 1990s she continued to make hit records especially this ballad! When she acted in a couple TV shows and had one short-lived show, she was a heck of an actress IMO as well! Patti Labelle - Somebody Loves You Baby (You Know Who It Is)
26 Ja Rule sampled this song with Case singing the hooks! Stevie Wonder - Do I Do

Some more hints for #31, 30 & 27!
31) He is one of the main celeberties, well the frontman of this group, to wear to that haircut made popular by Kid of Kid N Play In the mid 80s.
30) This British soul/funkster went by one name only, that a lot of fathers would call their young sons.
27) She made several cameo appearances on the hit TV series A Different World. No she did not sing the theme, but she could've, she's next to her being a prime diva even in her 60s as we speak! On this song she realizes her feelings after spending some time with this guy.

25 The frontman of the Philly group that he fronted in the 1970s told his woman to do this. Teddy Pendergrass - Turn Off The Lights
24 It was his last solo top 40 pop hit, making the top 20. Even though he made the top 5 pop charts with his group, he never even made the pop top 10. His currently charting on the Urban AC charts on his own label with a remake from an album full of remakes! Jeffrey Osborne - You Should Be Mine (The Woo Woo Song)
23 This song has been sampled more than once, R.Kelly is one of the culprits( samples song not released as a single however). Anyway the trio had some wedding songs that not only made the pole position but also one hit #1 pop as well! Surface - Happy
22 This something my sister said when my firstborn nefew was born! That's what many would say especially being a mother for the very first time! Well, on the duet it's saying this about a "romantic" relationship. Cherelle & Alexander O'Neal - Never Knew Love Like This
21 She hit number one on the all the major pop airplay charts along with the Hot 100, but only because of huge duet from an animated movie. This here is here is her very first hit that spent three weeks at number 2 on the R&B charts. Don't worry she has had more than one number one R&B hit to date! Regina Belle - Show Me The Way

24) Jeffrey Osborne - "You Should Be Mine" (I don't have my chart books with me, so I'm pretty much guessing at these) If 24 is by Jeffrey Osborne, then that guess is actually very close.
But the correct song would be "Love Power" (with Dionne Warwick).[/font]

Gladys Knight ("Men"- BTW can't find the single remix) and Atlantic Starr ("Circles") not both never made the cut, but were well considered.
More hints before I move on
23) The former frontman of this group had one solo single that barely made the Hot R&B/ Hip Hop charts in the mid 90s. You would've thought that this was their very first single, but it wasn't. About four years prior to finally making the top 10, their first two charted singles flopped! 22) Her cousin had more number one R&B hits than she did. She never had a number two smash, but the did have only one number 3. In this woman's case this number two smash is also a duet before she finally hit number one with that bland song.
And we still have number 30 to answer, it's pretty easy. The cut is from the early 1980s and it also hit the top ten in the UK.

20 Frontman of this band hit number one recently on the Urban AC charts. This song made the pop top 40 on Billboard, but fell short reaching the top 30 in the early 1980s.The Gap Band - You Dropped A Bomb On Me
19 This male solo singer hit number one with this one in the late 1980s, but only on the R&R Urban airplay charts. With this romantic ballad, he has made only one Hot 100 appearance. Glenn Jones - We've Only Just Begun (The Romance Is Not Over)
18 The Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis production sent this group back into the top 10 on the pop charts and reminded folks that Boston is not just a bean town.New Edition - If It Isn't Love
17 In the early 1980s she had two number one R&B hits and she tried to get her third with this one with help from Kashif. She also missed the Pop Top 40 as well.Evelyn King - Betcha She Don't Love You
16 In the late 1970s she came aboard with her debut single from an album title that mentions her nickname. This single was actually listed as a double A sided single which the other single did not chart as well as the first. Deniece Williams - Free
