This song was originally performed by Stephen Stills of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. However, it's basically a classic and other versions were done by The Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, and Aretha Franklin among others.
Stephen Stills Hot 100: #14 It was Stephen Still's biggest solo hit.
The Isley Brothers Hot 100: #18 Black Singles: #3
Luther Vandross Hot 100: #95
Oddly enough, despite being the lowest peaking single version of this song, Luther Vandross's version has received the most airplay of all versions in recent years.

This song it good. I like it a lot. The doo-doo-doo-doo-dit-it part always gets stuck in my head.

Lynda Carter sang this on one of her CBS specials in the early '80s. I always think of that when I hear this song.
