Were you a part of this?
There was an email chain letter of someone saying how sick they were of TRL and it's boybands and girlbands in early 1999. The plan was on March (or was it April?) 8, 1999... everybody go online at mtv.com and vote for NKOTB "Hangin Tough"
And the next day... guess what... :o It made it to #2 on TRL! It was so cool.
Another reason why online world > real world Oh yeah, and I was a part of it :)

Oh wow. I actually remember getting that chain letter. I never actually went and voted for the song though.

I was not a part of it. I don't think it proves that TRL isn't rigged though. I'm sure the producers got the e-mail as well.

I remembered it. I would've voted for it if I had cable.
TRL is still fixed since CoCo Lee would've been on it after her crazy fans used all these programs to try and get "Do You Want My Love" and then "Before I Fall In Love" played.

I remember there was a big fan thing right after Aaliyah died to push "We Need a Resolution" onto the countdown... I think it ended up making it as a Close Call.

I remember that another purpose of it was to prove if TRL was rigged. And yes, I voted for it It proved MTV's point. There are a whole truckload of TRL hits that were radio flops, but not so much back then.
