I sang "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" last night in a karaoke bar. It is the biggest and most influential record of all time. When I do it, the spirit of John Lennon floods into me. You have to be a certain age to remember the power of The Beatles in 1964. The Beatles changed everything: music, clothes, hairstyles, relations between the sexes and ultimately foreign policy. Never before or since has a music group wielded that kind of power. That Michael Jackson bought the Beatles catalog has hurt their music. It is almost as if Jackson purchased the rights to Shakespeare. Hopefully, his recent troubles will cause him to relinquish his hold. The Beatles jimcolyer.com/papers/entry?id=61Jim Colyer

They made so much incredible music that you forget they were only around for 8 years (even less in the U.S.)

Now that Michael Jackson was judged "Not guilty," he may retain his stranglehold on The Beatles catalog awhile longer. Jackson has hurt The Beatles music. I wish the same dude who bought the rights to the Elvis estate would buy the rights to The Beatles.

Their first five Diamond albums: Abbey Road (12x) Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (11x) 1962-1966 (15x) 1967-1970 (16x) The Beatles (White Album) (19x)

I wish the same dude who bought the rights to the Elvis estate would buy the rights to The Beatles. I am not all that familiar with this issue. I know that Michael outbod Paul McCartney for the Beatles catalog in the 1980s. And I know that there was some controversy over him licensing "Revolution" to Nike.... But how has he hurt their music??? Just curious, because I know very little about this.

The whole deal has a nastiness to it. Paul McCartney told Jackson he should buy classic music catalogs because they are a good investment. Jackson said, "Okay, I am going to buy yours." McCartney was offended but could do little when he was outbid. The thing with Nike and "Revolution" was tasteless. It shows Jackson's lack of regard for the best music to come from the rock era. Obviously, I do not like Michael Jackson. I think he is guilty as sin in the child sex thing. The law is just not willing to do what it is supposed to when it comes to people with this kind of fame. To associate the Beatles catalog with Jackson in any way is to reduce its value.
