Well, now that the holiday music and year and specials and all that other stuff is over and done with (until next November, that is), I'm finally able to start posting the AT20 charts again. Here is the first AT20 of 2004:
LC TC SONG/ARTIST
01 01 Unwell/Matchbox Twenty (6th Week #1)
02 02 Forever And For Always/Shania Twain
04 03 Calling All Angels/Train
03 04 Drift Away/Uncle Kracker f/Dobie Gray
09 05 Sunrise/Simply Red
12 06 Look Through My Eyes/Phil Collins
05 07 Big Yellow Taxi/Counting Crows f/Vanessa Carlton
10 08 Invisible/Clay Aiken
07 09 The First Cut Is The Deepest/Sheryl Crow
06 10 White Flag/Dido
14 11 I Can Only Imagine/MercyMe
08 12 Have You Ever Been In Love/Celine Dion
11 13 Dance With My Father/Luther Vandross
13 14 You Raise Me Up/Josh Groban
16 15 If You're Not The One/Daniel Bedingfield
15 16 Fallen/Sarah McLachlan
XX 17 Christmas Canon/Trans-Siberian Orchestra
XX 18 Ain't No Mountain High Enough/Michael McDonald
XX 19 Tiny Dancer/Tim McGraw
18 20 Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
Droppers:
From #17: Why Don't You And I/Santana f/Alex Band
From #19: My Grown Up Christmas List/Kelly Clarkson
From #20: A New York Christmas/Rob Thomas
AT20 Extras:
Don't Wanna Lose You/Gloria Estefan (told about how Gloria's son had attention deficit disorder and is now writing books)
Don't Go Breaking My Heart/Elton John & Kiki Dee (talked about what Kiki is up to now - I didn't pay too much attention, since I was in a critical point in the Super Mario RPG game I was playing)
Dancing In The Moonlight/King Harvest (the song ruined the group's career, since it was unrepresentative of their typical music style)
Long Distance Dedications:
When You Believe/Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston
(basically someone frustrated about not being able to find themselves blowing off steam - very weak LDD, in my honest opinion)
I Try/Macy Gray (from an inmate of a juvenile prison to a boyfriend she made while serving time, who would be staying longer while she got out)
I Will Remember You/Sarah McLachlan (from a student to a teacher who was killed in an auto accident)
NOTE: This dedication gave me a sense of deja vu. There was an assembly at the school and they sang the song "Danny Boy", the teacher's favorite song. That sounds very familiar, was it on once before?
AT20 Archives:
1980: Escape (The Pina Colada Song)/Rupert Holmes
1983: Down Under/Men At Work (Pop Chart #1)
1988: Faith/George Michael (Pop Chart #1)
1996: Dreaming Of You/Selena (One of the biggest A/C hits from this week in 1996)
2001: Back Here/BBMak (One of the biggest A/C hits from this week in 2001)
NOTE: Casey indicated the BBMak song being from 2000. While that was the year it was released and went to #1 on the A/C chart, it wasn't on the chart in early 2000, but it was still in the Top Ten in early 2001, so I'm sure this is what Casey meant. Usually, he accidentally gives the wrong year for a song or two in the first few shows of the year
I was surprised to see that there was still a Christmas song on the chart. Even when Casey was going strictly by the R&R chart, he usually replaced Christmas songs that were on the chart he was using for songs that were right outside the Top 20. It would have made more sense to keep "Why Don't You And I" on for another week since "Christmas Canon" will most likely be off the chart next week. I wonder if WDYAI will be back on the chart next week.
Other than the two Christmas songs that dropped off this week, it doesn't look like I missed any songs that charted during the time that WLIT was doing their non-stop Christmas marathon.
Seems to me that a few relatively new songs are falling while older songs were moving back up. This chart must have reflected airplay from the time that Casey Kasem and Dick Clark were doing their Top 30 of 2003 countdowns. Hopefully, things will be back to normal by next week.
