For our first CHR Flashback in the March series, we go back to the year that Stevie Nicks declared "I Can't Wait" (a sentiment Nu Shooz would repeat a few months later), and Loverboy predicted "This Could Be The Night", a time when Heart was having "These Dreams", possibly about "How To Be A Millionaire" by ABC, or maybe being like Atlantic Starr and being "Secret Lovers" which, like Sade says, is "The Sweetest Taboo". But when you're found out, "Goodbye Is Forever", says Arcadia. The year was indeed 1986 and here is the Top 40 chart from March 7, 1986:

It sure is.
I was going to start giving out clues, the first one being that one week on the Hot 100, the 2W, LW TW and WOC column all contained the same number (17). And, coincidentally enough, Charlie was 17 years old at the time. Weird...

And finally, the CHR Flashback feature is back on. March became sort of weird during mid-month, what with the death of my favorite aunt, as well as a bunch of other crap that followed. By April, I just forgot about it, but now I remember and I'll try to get caught up this week. Currently, I've decided to eliminate the Mystery Song, but if and when I get caught up, I'll re-implement it. Now, we go back to the year that Bon Jovi lay down in a Bed Of Roses, complete with a Comforter, compliments of Shai while Ugly Kid Joe said the Cat's In The Cradle, but not with Annie Lennox's Little Bird. It was 1993, and here is the R&R CHR chart for the week of March 12, 1993:
LC TC wc SONG/ARTIST 02 01 09 I'm Every Woman/Whitney Houston 01 02 12 Ordinary World/Duran Duran 03 03 07 That's What Love Can Do/Boy Krazy 04 04 09 Bed Of Roses/Bon Jovi 07 05 08 Two Princes/The Spin Doctors 08 06 13 The Right Kind Of Love/Jeremy Jordan 11 07 08 Don't Walk Away/Jade 05 08 08 Get Away/Bobby Brown 10 09 08 Forever In Love/Kenny G 17 10 04 I Have Nothing/Whitney Houston 18 11 05 Informer/Snow 13 12 07 Angel/Jon Secada 14 13 07 Man On The Moon/R.E.M. 15 14 06 Cat's In The Cradle/Ugly Kid Joe 16 15 06 Sweet Thing/Mary J Blige 20 16 06 Love Is/Vanessa Williams w/Brian McKnight 06 17 12 A Whole New World (Aladdin's Theme)/Peabo Bryson & Regina Belle 19 18 05 Bad Girl/Madonna 22 19 04 If I Ever Lose My Faith In You/Sting 09 20 10 Mr. Wendal/Arrested Development 12 21 10 Here We Go Again/Portrait 26 22 05 Comforter/Shai 21 23 16 7/Prince & The New Power Generation 28 24 04 Beautiful Girl/INXS 30 25 04 I See Your Smile/Gloria Estefan 33 26 03 Simple Life/Elton John 31 27 03 Freak Me/Silk 32 28 04 Nothing But A G Thang/Dr. Dre 23 29 07 Stand/Poison 35 30 03 Love U More/Sunscreem 38 31 02 Somebody Love Me/Michael W. Now, we go back to the year that Ronald Reagan was once again elected president, Wendy's had everyone saying, "Where's the beef?", break dancing became a fad across the country, and on the big screen were blockbusters like "Beverly Hills Cop", "Gremlins", "The Karate Kid" and of course, "Ghostbusters" (all three movies would have sequels). It was 1984, and here is the chart for the week of March 23, 1984:

Bringing up the rear of the March, 2004 series is the year of Saturday Night Fever and Grease. Yes, 1978 (it's late, so that's why the intros are getting weaker and weaker). Now for the Top 30 chart for the week of March 31, 1978 (the day of a huge industrial fire in LaPorte County):

Yay, my favorite year in music! I like pretty much every song on that chart, except for the Gene Cotton one, and that's only 'cause I don't remember what it sounds like.

Maybe reception can post the like to a full audio clip of the song. It's a typical late '70s mid-tempo song and it's a really good song - I think I remember it from when it was popular, because when I heard it on a station in Michigan called Cozy FM (which has since gone country), it took me back to spring, 1978 and when I looked up the song in one of my Joel Whitburn books, by jove, that was exactly when the song was popular! 1978 wasn't exactly my favorite year in music, but it was a hell of a lot better than the crap we're hearing today! 1982 was more my style of music.

Ah, found it! :) It's on my copy of AT40 from 3/18/78 (featuring a story on how Gene Cotton got help starting his music career from a loan officer... everytime he cuts a new record, he sends an advance copy to the guy with a note of thanks). Yeah, I remember this song now. And, naturally, I like it.
