What happened with this album? Was this an intentional step on Kellys part to make sure she stayed n the shadows of Beyonce? it was as if she did not even try to make any single worthy material for this album. She had a chance after "dilemma" to really make a name for her self as a solo artist. She was on one of the biggest hits of that year but she just ruined it wit this album.
"Stole" was a nice song with a nice message...maybe it could have worked as a follow up to a HIT single but definately not as a 1st single.
"Cant nobody" was probably the most single worthy tack on the album but it flopped as well.
Anyone know the peak positions of these songs?

I think "Stole" was the best choice for the first single, I don't think any of the other songs would have hit the Top 10.

'Simply Deep' was actually very succesful in the UK. Hit #1, Went Platinum, Stole went to #2 and Can't Nobody #5. 'Train On A Track' also hit the top 20.

Her album was all filler, save for "Stole." I actually came around to "Can't Nobody" eventually too. That was quite a JAM as well.
I don't think I've ever listened to every song off the album in FULL. I know I never listened to that horrible Joe Budden song. (I think he was on it.)

. I know I never listened to that horrible Joe Budden song. (I think he was on it.) "me you wanna stay" was the name of it. That was probably the only song tha had a chance at Urban radio. I actually heard it on my urban station a few times. I liked it! :) But I agree the album as a whole was filler. I only liked Stole Havn't told U Cant Nobody Dilemma Make You wanna stay

Can you use the term "era" to describe someone who's been around for 2 years and released one album?

Can you use the term "era" to describe someone who's been around for 2 years and released one album? Era is used to describe a moment in time. Her album was released at a moment in time so it had an era. No matter how short or long it may have been but all albums have an "era" especially on this board.

I've always found it sort of interesting how each album and all performances/appearances/singles connected to it are described as an "era" on this board. Where did that concept originate?

I can see artists like U2 or Bowie having eras, since they've been kicking around for a while and went through several transitionary periods. Talking about a Kelly Rowland "era" makes it sound like she's had more than one as a solo artist.

It developed on the old R&R boards... I don't remember exactly, but I think it was a way of consolidating all the Mariah Carey topics into one (or maybe it was another major artist). Naturally, the concept spread out of control until practically every album release by even the most minor artist was given its own "Era" topic.

Where did that concept originate? i dont know where it started but it just seems like its an easier way to discuss everything having to do with an artist, their album, and whatever else is conerning them at a period of time. Its an easy way to keep everything in 1 thread instead of having 10 threads about the same artist at the same period of time.

Of all her albums she had ever released, this is actually my favorite by far. It's the only Kelly album where I felt compelled to listen to from start to finish without skipping. Ms. Kelly is a good album tho.
