Ahhh, what good memories! Takes me back to my senior year in high school.
Janet Jackson was in her second of three weeks with what would become the top song of the entire year, "Miss You Much". But hot on her heels was Roxette's "Listen To Your Heart" which would be held at bay for another week and I was thinking might not make it after all, but it managed to sneak in a week at the top before the John Waite led band Bad English would dislodge them for a pair of weeks at the top. Then, Milli Vanilli, a group that, a year later, we found out never sang on any of their hits, would also hit the number one spot, also for two weeks. As far as I'm concerned, the number one song after this may not have even been recorded yet! It was Phil Collins' song about the plight of homeless people "Another Day In Paradise", which would have easily become the top song of 1989 had all cumulative points been considered, even for weeks charted in adjacent years. That song would step onto the chart in late October.
Well, I gotta go wprk on the next CHR Flashback. Good luck on the mystery song!
