I agree, I don't want her going too urban but put a little urban twist in her songs in which I think would make her huger in the states. It doesn't hurt to experiment a little here and there but why Hip Hop?? It's been overkill since 2000 now so Leona's current style is more than welcome. She came as a breath of fresh air so I hope she'll keep it that way. No need to start with the Rap bandwagon what everyone else has been doing for the past 10 years. Hip Hop's currently fading out for Pop to make that comeback. Conclusion the ever changing times beg to differ, key to success is holding her own. :) Who said HIP HOP? I said urban, meaning more R&B leaning songs not hip hop. Please don't try to group it as one because its not.

Awaited response. ;) My motive for saying that is that these 2 genres have been inseparately in the mainstream for the past 10 years. No argument in classy R&B but the way Urban has been handling itself I'd say it's a no go. It's a market flaw, R&B should distance itself from Hip Hop crossover again. The definition Urban in the 00's stands for mainly R&B/Hip Hop. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_contemporary

Please do not try to explain what I meant with MY post, I said I wanted to hear some R&B leaning songs without any hip hop influence in Leona's next album. There are many great urban songs out right now that are not affliliated with hip hop. Don't try to make it like urban music is so horrible and pop music is so great, there is nothing so refreshing about pop music right now, its the same ol', imo.

Don't try to make it like urban music is so horrible and pop music is so great, there is nothing so refreshing about pop music right now, its the same ol', imo. Nothing of the above, only a different angle based on facts. The definition Urban in the 00's mostly stands for R&B/Hip Hop as the link in Urban Contemporary which is basically the same defines. Apart from that we each have our own definitions to what it is and what it should be. I'm not even disagreeing with you on the matter, I'm only pointing out what it is and thus how it'll be understood in timeframe. Even when I don't favor the one genre over the other "Urban" has IMHO gone downhill in the 00's mainstream by associating R&B too much with Hip Hop. That along with the fact we have an overkill on radio for the last 10 years now makes me appreciate the comeback of other genres and welcome diversity even more. So now that we have that out of our system I hear you want more pure R&B for Leona. Well, I'm an R&B fan. I like lots of music and R&B is definitely one of them. I like Leona doing a few songs in that vein but prefer her keeping her Pop style overall. Next to that I feel she should explore in different heights, not only R&B which is the predictable thing to do now but also some impressive other styles.

She can experiment in Hip/hop and R&B without "contaminating" her existing style but doing collabs for other artists albums. I know P Diddy is trying to get her on his album, a few urban collabs a la Rihanna would be in good feed to keep the profile up during the recording phase. Rihanna however has the perfect vocal sound for urban, I'm not sure Leona's is a good fit for this genre. I would be interested to see how she came over in a country song, although I'm not a fan of country, its seems to me that "Forgive Me" should have been recorded in a country style having heard this cover on youtube uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0GGB7KcSRc0

No country please. That would turn me off straight away. It's one of the reasons I can't get really into Carrie Underwood even though I love her voice.

Country music would be too far. I would not see any hits from that album.

I for one ain't interested to see her as the millionth hook girl on the corner. Country on the other hand is different and might be nice to explore in even though I'd prefer her keeping her AC Pop style, she's just perfect for that and can actually pull it off. Doing R&B/Hip Hop simply limits her as an artist, Hip Hop restricts and has become a cliché. And why always Urban in the first place?? Why no Rock as in 80's Bon Jovi to name an extreme if you want to hear something different for a change?

It's always R&B/Hip Hop so I strongly hail to change. I don't like her doing R&B/Hip Hop but Pop/Rock's more than welcome should she explore into anything. Hip Hop's a waste of her talent, she doesn't need rappers to steal the limelight and limit her music. If she indeed becomes that millionth hookgirl hoe she would immediately lose my interest instead. So for those of you who do want this music go and listen to all those "singers" currently out there already. It's about time that the music industry starts pleasing more audiences again, mainstream music shouldn't equal Urban.

Well she DEFINITELY needs to shy away from the material that was on her crap album "Best Kept Secret". It's more urban and not good at all.

Actually her demo album was not BKS, that was a done by a production company. "Twilight" was the demo album were she wrote all the material herself and their are some great tracks on it.

The fact is, for artist like Leona who use R&B vocal techniques in their brand of pop music, the transition from Pop to R&B is much more seamless then from Pop to Pop/Rock. She doesn't have the same voice as Pink who made the transition well and although more similar to Kelly Clarkson, I can't picture her with shrieking vocals. Homegirl loves her vibrato.

In a new Diane Warren interview she confirms she'll be working with Leona on the second album:
"I just did a song that Akon did, I did something that Sean Kingston's doing, and I'll be working with Leona (Lewis) and Chris Brown on their upcoming albums."

Of I can't wait for that. Leona singing a big Diane Warren number will be one of the highlights of the new album. Anyone who didn't catch the Radio 1 interview yesterday should check it out, it was funny!

"Run" has leaked. A few (negative) changes from the live version but still one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

Destroyed, this mindset's getting you nowhere thus the reason music's been in the repetitive circle all along. I'm a fan of Pop/Rock with an actual good impressive vocal and don't consider Pink or Kelly Clarkson good at all. I'd say the combination Pop/Rock with powerhouse vocs is a rather nice pairing. Whatever happened to the days the big voices were allowed to Rock out?? Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Gloria, Janet, Madonna and the list continues. Shrieking vocals are not required in Pop/Rock music, you can blame Alternative for that illusion.

ICE ONE, LEONA! COVERING a Snow Patrol song is just the tip of the iceberg for Leona Lewis who, I can reveal, is planning a full rock transformation. Everyone’s favourite talent show winner – and now Grammy nominee – is heading straight for No 1 this weekend with her version of Run. Leona worked with R&B stars Ne-Yo, 29, and Akon, 35, on her debut album Spirit but she wants to get involved with more bands like The Script on her planned follow-up. Leona told me: “I have a few tracks on this album which have a bit more of a rocky edge, so it’s kind of going in that way a little bit more. “It is going to be a live, organic feel next time around. I’m all for trying new things. “I think The Script are so talented and great guys and if they did want to write with me in the future then definitely I’d be up for it. I think they are amazing.” And she has not ruled out a collaboration with the Dublin trio. “There is nothing set in stone,” she said. “For the next album there are a few bands that I am going to be working with, hopefully, and it is kind of going in a different direction. I just want to see how it goes.” The Grammys, where Leona is up for Record Of The Year for Bleeding Love and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, will hopefully see the 23-year-old X Factor winner take home some silverware after surprisingly being snubbed by both the BRITs and the MTV EMAs this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if our Hackney lass is invited to perform at the prestigious event, which will be held in February next year. Leona is chuffed that her fellow female warblers Adele, 20, Estelle, 28, and Duffy, 24, are also being recognised at the Grammys for their hits. She continued: “I am so supportive of any artist but female artists in particular. “It’s a hard industry and so many people want the chance to live out what we’re doing. I think that we have to support each other on it and flourish on it. “It’s great that so many women are coming out and being successful – so empowering.” Too right. www.dailystar.co.uk/playlist/...ce-One-Leona-/

When i read the country idea...i laughed. Girl, can't pull country off with her voice. Same with urban. 'Forgive Me' is about the most urban she is.
