Now I'm thinking that this could even miss the #1... Just maybe. It's losing ground to Rascal Flatts. It's losing ground to Jason Aldean. It's even losing ground to Jake Owen. Carrie's likely to gain 2 million on this one in one week, although that still leaves her behind. I guess you can be excited that it's gaining on River Of Love and It Won't Be Like This For Long. But unless it has a big turnaround, it's going to be lucky to peak at #3. On Billboard, that is. I don't worry about the crazy points-based chart.

Wow i'm surprised to see this losing spins in a hurry. I guess we will probably find out about the new single soon... ("Got it Good" or "Chasing Girls" maybe?)

"Friends With Tractors" is the highest selling song on iTunes (besides the first single). i wouldnt doubt that would be the next single.
but since this album is terrible, and there are only 4 good songs on it...
i would like to hope either "Chasin' Girls", "Got It Good" "When It's My Time", or "The River Just Knows" will be picked as the next single. (although "River" is the only song i love)

Wait, for which chart? Mediabase still has Rascal Flatts pretty far ahead today...

I think Chasing Girls and Friends With Tractors are the only singles on the album. and WTF@ his voice!?! :'( I mean, is that meant to be a key change on the last chorus of 'I'm America'? Because the key of the song goes up but his voice doesn't/can't

They should've kept it in the same key throughout or given it to another singer, because Rodney can't sing very well in that key any key.

^ LMAO. Sometimes I listen and think 'is he trying to be like a country Springsteen?' because his voice can do 'gravel-ey' pretty good sometimes. But then I listen for awhile longer and my face goes like

But then I listen for awhile longer and my face goes like I don't usually think his voice is that bad, but yeah, that gravel is kind of weird at times. Especially since he didn't use the gravely range on Honesty at all. (What did he sound like on "In a Heartbeat?") Maybe he just affects his voice so he doesn't sound almost exactly like Tim McGraw.

really? I think Tim is a much better vocalist. Like lightyears better. I would fall down laughing/crying if Rodney tried 'Live Like You Were Dying'

Rodney gets compared to Tim all the time...same label, similar sound, etc.

Yeah I getcha. Was listening to Chasing Girls and that could very easily be Tim, but Rodney can really sound terrible at times. I have never had a problem with Tim McGraws voice until his most recent album, which was horrible anyway.

This song is terrible, but overall I don't think Rodney Atkins is as bad as many make him out to be overall.
Some have criticized him for being a pangloss musically. While it's true some of the most hopeful, upbeat songs have trying conflict that ultimately leads to a happy ending or at least sense of opportunity, I happen to think his optimism is a breath of fresh air on the radio and can't fault him for that.
If one criticism is particularly true about Atkins, it's that he is pandering to country stereotypes to keep his commercial standing strong. Even so, I think three of the four hits from his previous album were strong writes, with the title track having some wit to it and also much-needed motivation to those struggling for whatever reason, "Watching You" a convincing snapshot on parenthood, and "Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy)" a great joke song that nonetheless centers around the protectiveness that comes through parenthood. The only hit I found awful was "These Are My People".
The songs he performs this era are inferior compared to the previous era, but there are still some decent ones there. "15 Minutes", "The River Just Knows" and "Rockin' Of The Cradle" are all strong writes. It's the former part of the album that's all material designed to pander to an image of what "country" is.
All in all, Rodney Atkins is a forgettable artist in many respects, as he lacks both stage personality and inventiveness, but all the same I don't think he was ever striving for either of these attributes anyway, and appears to many listeners as that "guy next door" who is polite and affable with an infectious gift of optimism. And for that I find it impossible to "hate" Atkins either and, in fact, kind of like him compared to many other artists on the radio.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

What i admire most about Rodney is that he is still a humble, down to earth guy...which is sooo rare among celebrities. Try to meet him sometime if you get the chance!!!
As far as his music goes, "Chasin' Girls" and "Got It Good" are both strong songs which should give him more chart success!

Noah, I agree with everything you said about Rodney. Except for some reason I didn't mind "These Are My People", as shallow as it was. Good to know I'm not the only person who found "Watching You" to be a good song — I always liked it because it showed the little boy learning both good and bad traits from his father, and most songs/stories of that nature only focus on the boy learning the good traits.
"It's America" is certainly one of the weaker songs in his catalog, I'll agree.
Zazie was wrong! This is a first!

I can see why some see "These Are My People" as simply being a fun, silly song about living large in his home community, but I still don't think that deserved to go #1, unlike the other three #1 hits he collected the previous era. I agree about "Watching You". And I also love it because Atkins (who wrote most of the lyrics for this track unlike his other hits) injects humor into it, telling Elijah he can't have his toy until his Chicken McNuggets were gone, referencing cowboy hats and camel pants, etc. It just feels genuine all around, and while I generally agree with the reviews over at the 9513 and the laments about the state of country radio today, this is one song where I find the disdain toward it mind-boggling. The problem with "It's America", in contrast, is that it's desperately trying to come across as an anthem, despite the fact Atkins had no problem at all delivering anthems the previous era. At the same time, his voice just doesn't fit the production of the song (I wouldn't be surprised if he had been listening to a lot of Bruce Springsteen's most recent material around the time he recorded this, as he kind of sounds like he's trying to sound like latter-career Springsteen and his name even comes up in the lyrics though Atkins didn't write them) and the song lyrically feels like something catered to the tourism industry; a jingle to encourage those across the world to visit America. It's incredibly lazy writing. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

^It's "Camo" pants I'm pretty sure. As for Springsteen, I've honestly not heard any of his songs in full except "Devils and Dust", which came across as so raw it was like aural sandpaper.

I heard this song for the first time yesterday. Wow is it bad. It's so cliche and really panders to its audience. Of course, the radio audience is apparently eating it up so go figure. I can't think of anything original or good in this song. Wait; has the song going a key higher without the singer changing his key ever been done before?
