www.bebo.com/BlogView.jsp?MemberId=7932491298&BlogId=8310591370‘Hallelujah’ Is the Fastest Selling Download Ever Across EuropeAlexandra’s debut single has already made it into the record books: today it was confirmed as the fastest-selling download single in history across the whole of Europe! The single sold over 105,000 copies in the UK on download only in just one day, Sunday 14th December. It smashed the previous record of 82,000 in one day achieved by Leona Lewis with her debut release, ‘A Moment Like This’. Comparatively Take That’s recent No.1 single ‘Greatest Day’ sold 9,488 downloads on its first day, and Girls Aloud’s No.1 track ‘The Promise’ sold 7,600 downloads. ‘Hallelujah’ is currently at No.1 on HMV.com, 7Digital and Play.com’s download chart, as well as being top of the iTunes 100 chart. The single will be released on CD in shops this Wednesday 17th December and is backed by ‘Candyman’ and ‘Without You’, two audience favourites from Alexandra’s time on the show. Gennaro Castaldo, a spokesman for HMV says, ‘We’re seeing a phenomenal rush to download the ‘Hallelujah’ single from our website. It’s both our fastest and biggest-ever selling download, and Alexandra already has the Christmas No.1 all wrapped up. The physical CD single, which comes out on Wednesday, will give the release another huge boost and it’s now about how many copies Alexandra may go on to sell. HMV is ordering massive extra stock to keep up with the unprecedented demand.’

I hope she's just as successful as Leona. Her voice at least has some personality.

<3 She's amazing. I hope she's as big as Leona (but with a much better album - I don't want another snoozefest!)

What separates her from Leona is that she can work those hot uptempos. I could see her having a lot of success with the right material and producers.

LEONA: I KNOW ALEX WILL CONQUER THE WORLD
LEONA Lewis is a big supporter of Alexandra Burke and reckons the X Factor is the ideal way to prepare for fame.
Grammy nominee Leona has become an international superstar since winning the TV talent show two years ago.
And 20-year-old Alex, who took over the mantle at the weekend, is tipped to follow in her footsteps.
Leona told me: “I just love Alexandra – she’s got such a great voice. With Simon Cowell and his team helping her she cannot fail.
“For me the X Factor was a preparation for how it would be after the show and being in the limelight.
“It was kind of an introduction, as I was on the show every week, so people started to notice me.
“Fame came gradually so I think that’s how I got used to it.
“That was so much better than not doing anything one minute and then the next: ‘Oh my God.’”
Alexandra, who is set for the Christmas No 1 with her interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, will be looked after by Modest Management, the same people who guided Leona to stardom.

I don't think Alex's got what it takes to be a massive star. I actually think she's the most overrated singer I've ever heard. There's no doubting her voice is good, but her annoying personality is gonna seriously prohibit her success. Basically, I can't stand the girl.
I might just change my opinion if she comes back with a Bleeding Love but if it's anything like Don't Call This Love she's gone.
I'm nervous for her.

I think she could work it if they market her as a sort of modern-day Toni Braxton, rather than the Mariah Carey sound Leona has gone for. She can do sexy much more convincingly and she has a much stronger lower register compared to Leona's excellent upper register.

www.alexandraburkeofficial.com/newsdiary/post/alexs_hallelujah_becomes_the_christmas_no1/Alex’s ‘Hallelujah’ Becomes The Christmas No.1Posted 21st December 2008 Alex’s record-breaking debut single release ‘Hallelujah’ has become the fastest selling single in the UK by a solo female artist of all time. The single has sold a phenomenal 576,046 copies in just one week, making it the UK’s official Christmas No.1 and outselling the rest of the Top 20 combined. Earlier this week Alexandra also broke the record for the fastest-selling download single across Europe, selling more downloads in two days than the previous record holder sold in a week. In total, ‘Hallelujah’ sold 289,000 digital downloads, a record one-week total for any single since the arrival of the digital age. Alex says: ‘This is absolutely crazy, I can’t believe it. It’s been the best week of my life. Simon Cowell has given me a holiday to celebrate and said I can go anywhere in the world, but to be honest all I want to do is get started on the album! Thank you so much to everyone that has supported me and bought the single. I’m bursting with excitement right now, it’s incredible!’ Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot says, ‘It has been an amazing week for Alexandra Burke, who has broken a string of records to announce her arrival in spectacular style.’ After four months of fevered anticipation and the most exciting and controversial series yet, Alexandra Burke triumphed on Saturday night to win The X Factor 2009 in front of a TV audience of over 14 million viewers. Alexandra released her debut single ‘Hallelujah’, her version of the Leonard Cohen classic as a download at the stroke of midnight on Sunday 14th December, less than two hours after millions witnessed her claim the winner’s crown.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/4013996/X-Factor-winner-Alexandra-Burkes-Hallelujah-is-biggest-selling-single-of-2008.htmlX Factor winner Alexandra Burke's 'Hallelujah' is biggest-selling single of 2008 X Factor winner Alexandra Burke's version of Leonard Cohen's song Hallelujah has been revealed as the biggest-selling single of the year. Last Updated: 29 Dec 2008 Burke sold another 311,000 copies last week to total 888,000 singles, including downloads and CDs, in the final two weeks of the year. Duffy's Rockferry was comfortably the biggest-selling album of 2008, according to the Official Charts Company data. The results also showed Syco Music, the company set up by X Factor judge Simon Cowell, released the two most popular singles of this year and the fourth most popular album - Leona Lewis's Spirit. Burke pushed the X Factor Finalists' charity single Hero, with sales of 751,000, into second place. Coming third, Duffy sold 536,000 copies of Mercy - the only other single to sell more than half a million copies. Duffy held off a last ditch album challenge from Take That, with Rockferry selling 1.685 million copies (both digital and physical) to remain on top to the end of the year. Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "Duffy and Alexandra Burke have been the biggest new arrivals on the British music scene over the past year, bar none." The Official Charts Company compiles the UK's official singles, albums and compilations charts. Take That's The Circus sold 1.4m albums in the last four weeks - which also made it the UK's second fastest million-seller, in just 19 days to finish second, ahead of Kings of Leon, Lewis and Coldplay. The Mamma Mia! The Movie movie soundtrack was the year's biggest compilation seller and the only various artists package to sell more than a million copies in the UK.

Don't like her much, decent voice but nothing that will make her have huge success in Leona's scale.
She also isn't very likable, after her winning the show all her interviews she has came across really bad.

I can't believe they're releasing this so soon. They can't be serious about breaking her in America if the album's going to be the typical X-Factor Mothers Day covers dross. She's working with BEN ADAM's from A1. Obviously not, because he went into Celebrity Big Brother last night.

I like her voice, and she is more interesting than Leona (staring at an empty fishtank is more interesting than Leona). But I have a feeling we're going to get a schlocky ballad fest.

Alex has stated that she does not want to do an album of covers. She wants all original music. Now will she get what she want is another question. Maybe they will push back the album date.
