Helen Folasade Adu is one of the most creative and different artists of our time. I HAD to make a thread dedicated to the music of her band because each album is near perfection. She was never a celebrity and was all about the music. One of the best live performers and I had the pleasure of growing up in a household where her music was played often. My favourite songs from her are Feel No Pain, Cherish the Day, Love Is Stronger than Pride, When Am I Going to Make a Living, and Nothing Can Come Between Us. Who else loves her? EDITED: DEC 4, 2009Sade, the "quiet storm" R&B group featuring vocalist Sade Adu, has completed its long-awaited sixth studio album. "Soldier of Love," the band's first collection of new material since 2000's "Lover's Rock" will be released Feb. 8, 2010 worldwide on Epic. As first revealed on Billboard.com in July, Sade and her longtime bandmates including Stuart Matthewman, a.k.a. Cottonbelly, regrouped in a U.K. recording studio in June and were recording and mixing into October. Though no details about Sade's new music have yet been revealed, one artist heard early versions of several songs: Maxwell, a fellow Sony recording artist and longtime friend and collaborator with Matthewman. The R&B singer sent a message to fans in March via his private Facebook page in which he indicated that he'd heard some of his labelmate's new recordings. "Trust me, it's so monolithic it'll shake you in your shoes!" he wrote. Sade's 2000 release, "Lovers Rock," sold 3,881,000 copies in the U.S. and the prior album, 1992's "Love Deluxe," sold 3,407,000. Since 1985's "Diamond Life" debut, Sade has sold nearly 17 million units in the U.S. alone according to Nielsen SoundScan. EDITED FEB 19, 2010"Soldier Of Love" is the #1 album in the USA, selling 501K in it's first week. :)

The Sade catalog is flawless. There is not one bad song. I am a major fan. It's too bad we'll probably never get another album. Lover's Rock was supposed to be their last album, and almost 10 years later, it doesn't look like that was a lie.

^^ You're correct. I'm sure the retirement was for real. That's why I'm getting all the live concerts and albums...wish I had the opportunity to see the band perform. :)

I LOVE Sade! :) I listen to their music all the time. They have such beautiful music. Their music sounds like something that you would hear if you were on on tropical island.
If you are new to Sade purchase "The Best of Sade" off iTunes, Rhapsody MP3, Amazon, or other digital music sites.

I love their music too! I got into their music after I heard Dance remixes of "Paradise" and "By Your Side" in the early 2000's. The local Rhythmic radio station played those in their mixshows. I checked out some of their original recordings after that. Their Best Of album is simply flawless. No filler, nothing unnecessary. I wish they would do another album even though it probably will never happen. If you are new to Sade purchase "The Best of Sade" off iTunes, Rhapsody MP3, Amazon, or other digital music sites. I second! It's the perfect way to start.

Stuart Matthewman, Paul Spencer Denman and Andrew Hale (members of Sade) have their own band called, Sweetback.
You can find their music on iTunes, Rhapsody MP3, Amazon, and other digital music sites.

^ Maxwell supposedly worked with Sweetback on his upcoming album(Praying that it will be released in 2009).
He did the lead vocal on "Softly Softly", a song on one of their albums.
I never heard that Sade was retiring, that would really suck.

Not sure how reliable this is, but for what it's worth: www.raarfm.com/musicnews/new_sade_album_to_be_released_in_2009Sony Music has confirmed that the new Sade album will be released early next year. Her latest studio album "Lovers Rock" was released in 2000 and although it wasn't as great as "Love Deluxe" (1992) we still loved it to death. "Smooth Operator " was released in 1984 (25 years ago already) and Sade will celebrate her 50th birthday (can you believe it) next year as well. Of course we will keep you updated on this sensational come-back.

Hmm...if this is real, then I'm VERY happy! There's no other like Sade and I'd truly be thankful if they come back!

Yeah, Sade will release another album. They still have albums owed on their contract and there was rumblings of them being in the studio earlier this year.

That article says Sony has confirmed it, yet there is nothing anywhere else about a new album due out next year. As far as talk that they're recording, that talk has been going on since the middle of the decade. I'm not saying it's definitely not going to happen, but I'm not going to buy into rumors right now because they've been going on for awhile.

I absolutely love Sade. Her greatest hits album is one of the best ever, and I never get tired of listening to it. My favorite tracks are Is It a Crime, Jezebel, and No Ordinary Love. I also love the Lovers Rock album. Just wish I had gone to see them live when I had the chance.

I adore Sade, but expecting an album from them is like expecting an album from Maxwell. It's great in theory, but it's never going to happen.

I love Sade. Like Black Moses has said, their catalog is one colossal shining diamond. Even if they never release another album (which they likely won't), the quality of their legacy is enough to last me for a long time.

I love Sade, especially Love Deluxe. Some of their songs are totally timeless. And the sophistication and general seductive feeling from the songs don't hurt much.

"All About Our Love" from the Lover's Rock album. Supposedly Maxwell said on his Facebook page back in March that Sade was working on new material, so I Googled it and he indeed said new Sade is "on its way". He would know because they work with a lot of the same people. I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet.

Exclusive: New Sade On The Way, 2009 Release PossibleJune 01, 2009 02:41 PM ET Monica Herrera and David J. Prince, N.Y. Sade Adu, the reclusive "quiet storm" soul signer who takes notoriously long breaks between releases, has regrouped with the band that bears her name and is recording her first album of new material since 2000's "Lovers Rock," Billboard.com sources confirm. The group is in the studio through June and Sony hopes to put the record out by the end of 2009 though, despite rumors, there is no set release date on the calendar. "She is in the studio and the album will come when it is ready," a source at Sony tells Billboard. "You don't wait for years for one and then rush it." Sade's longtime bandmate Stuart Matthewman, a.k.a. Cottonbelly, also confirms that new material is in progress, though he says the project is still in its "early days" and won't be close to finished until "later in the year." Last week, rumors of a new Sade album surfaced when the official-looking website sade2009.com went live with a message claiming a release date of November 24, 2009 for a new album. However, the source at Sade's label denies any connection to that site. "We do not know where that fan site could have got that release date from, but it is 100% not true." Billboard contacted the site's owner and web developer, who insisted that the release date was "official;" since his response, however, the site's posting has been updated with a correction: "The date above has been changed, a representative from Sony confirmed the new date to be unknown. Please check back for the update on Sade's album release." Though no details about Sade's new music have yet been revealed, one artist may have already heard snippets: Maxwell, a fellow Sony recording artist and longtime friend and collaborator with Matthewman, who will soon release a new record of his own ("BLACKsummer'snight," July 7) after a multi-year hiatus. Since 1985's "Diamond Life" debut, Sade has sold nearly 17 million units in the U.S. alone according to Nielsen SoundScan. www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/exclusive-new-sade-on-the-way-2009-release-1003978338.story
