I think this is just leading to her losing her record deal entirely. She spent too much time pretending she was 'never going to release another pop album' for them to trust her again.
If she really wanted to do country she should have put her heart into it, it should have been about truth and respect for country music, not a bandwagonning cash-cow like she was.

My thoughts exactly. I don't draw musical boundaries, but I think that if an artist is going to record an album that's outside his or her normal genre (even if only on a whim), the artist should show a clear understanding of that genre. As far as I can tell, all Jessica did was record the same cotton candy she's always done, but had the producer tack on a steel guitar (which is hardly exclusive to country music anyway) and have Rachel Proctor co-write a couple songs that still ended up being mostly cotton candy anyway. The only song I liked from what I heard was "Remember That". I guess I should establish the Jessica Simpson rule: Being from the South doesn't automatically give you cred as a country singer.

There are two things old school country audiences expect.. work your butt off & the show must go on. How many times during the recent tour was it reported that Jess forget lyrics or she was moaning that she didn't feel well, or she missed her guy. That just isn't going to cut it. People want to be entertained; they don't wanna hear that your voice isn't right that night.
