"Promise" was so good it should have had no problem whatsoever crossing over. It's her best song and it's a shame Pop wouldn't give it a chance. Oh well.
I'm going to take a look at the video now. Hopefully it helps me to like the song more.

Wow, well, after seeing the video, I do like the song more. She looks amazing in it and it is very mid-90's Janet. I still think she can do better than this song but it's passable. I think it will do fine on Urban. It will be interesting to see if it can crossover at all.

I don't think most of Ciara's music has really catered to CHR/Pop radio. Her two songs that are really pop are "1, 2 Step" and "Like A Boy". "Goodies" and "Oh" succeeded because pop radio had a love affair with crunk and hip-hop in the middle of the decade. "Promise" was definitely not a pop song, and no one would have said anything about its performance at pop radio if she hadn't had three big pop hits from her debut. There were a bunch of other Polow slow jams that sounded like it that did well at Urban radio, and none of them were pop hits either. Exactly. I was astonished that Pop even played it that much, let alone "Like A Boy" going Top 20 right after. I think she can pull a "Single" with "Never Ever" with the right promotion. It seems like they are ready to begin pushing it. I think it's her most Pop mid-tempo yet.

I also believe "Can't Leave Em' Alone" would have done fine at Pop radio.

DEAD @ "Never, Ever" is the official first single When artists refuse to believe a first flopped single doesn't exist even though a video and promo was done for it is just pure comedy. LOL I love Ciara, I really do, but I gotta agree with this. I hate when artists try to forget about their first singles if it's flopped.

Well Go Girl > this. The Go Girl video makes this one's video look pitiful.

Actually it doesn't. The "Go Girl" video just seems better cause it's on extras with fireworks and shit, but actually this is more enjoyable.
At the end of the day, "Never Ever" is a better single, videos just are for exposure.

Hopefully she recovers as well as Chris Brown did after "Wall to Wall" flopped.

I am hoping I like her upcoming album as much. So far nothing I have heard has been as strong as Promise or Like A Boy. I still like Go Girl and Never, Ever though!

Imo Go Girl died when the first chorus came in and never really recovered. The parts before that (intro & first verse) were great though.
This song is ok. I can sorta see it being a hit, but it's just so...plain.
Promise still stands as her best single to me.

I really want her to succeed this time around. People has put her down since the moment she came into the game.

I heard this joint debuted at #5 on the Hot 100. Is that true?
Cause I really doubt that even being possible.

Not for an R&B mid tempo like promise lol ciara's fans are def something else lol .. i really cant stop listening to the song i'm surprised many people here consider the forgetable 'promise' as her nest single, it's a good song, but it didnt make a good single at all, especially a lead single. i still think 1.2 step is her best single.

This song sounds so similar to Single by New Kids On The Block. I never noticed how much it did till I listened back to back.

Never Ever is NOT Ciara's lead single.
Go girl was. She is just too ashamed to admit its flop, so she calls it her "promo single"
Promo my ass
