not my favorite on the album, but not terrible. i was hoping for "Carry On" or "What I'm For".
btw, i am quite impressed with his album. there isn't a bad song on it. that is quite amazing for me never liking a Pat Green song until "Let Me". i'm glad he has changed his music style.

I really like this song, but releasing anything but Carry On or What I'm For is a huge mistake. This is a fun song, but I can't help but think it works better as an album cut. I'm not sure the casual listener will pick up on the satirical nature of the song. Still, it's a fun summer-time song, but I was really hoping that both Carry On and What I'm For would be released (the latter could easily be Pat's first #1), and that seems unlikely now (Pat has never gone 4-deep on an album). I see this peaking about where all the rest of Pat's singles have peaked, somewhere around #20.

This makes a lot of sense and actually is JUST the kind of song for country radio, it's ridiculous and fun, kinda like "Chicken Fried."

This is now at radio. Two versions were sent out - the album version and an alternate version. The alternate version changes the "I gotta get my ass to Nashville" line to "I gotta get myself to Nashville."

People didn't have trouble understanding that Celebrity was satirical, so I'm hoping they take this one the way it was intended. I like What I'm For a great deal, but this one has a lot of life in it and I think it might do well. Pat's only had one top 10 and I hope he manages a second one, after Let Me just fell short.
Good idea, to substitute those rewritten lyrics.

Amazingly, there have been some who totally miss his tongue-in-cheek humor on this song How you can't see it's meant to be funny once you see him perform live though, really baffles me! Here's a video from the opening night of the Jagermeister Tour in Atlanta GA: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjKLtWsoekQGotta love Pat!

It's this generation's "Gone Country." It is totally a joke. However, people will sadly think it's crap just because it's 'catchy' and not realize he's kind of picking on all the guys with all the damn 'i'm country cause my label tells me to be' songs.

For me, this was one of the standout tracks from this album. Glad to see it's being released as a single. I think it'll do well.

I like this song a lot. I agree with the comparison to "Gone Country". Both are well-written, satirical songs, that hopefully radio listeners will 'get'. I never warmed up to "Let Me", but since that one did so well, I think this has a decent chance at becoming Pat's second top 10 hit.

I don't think this will fare very well, but a lot of that is because of Pat's past radio "success". I'll be surprised if it goes Top 20.
The song lyrically is OK, but I think it is kind of noisy in its production (it's just lacking that crisp factor that would polish it just enough for my tastes) and I don't particularly care for his voice, either. He seems to stop singing before he finishes the last word of many of the sentences in the verses. In fact the way he says "and I wonder how they'll live without me" in the second verse particularly bothers me.
It sure is no "Gone Country" and is nowhere near 'Celebrity' in comedic factor, either.
I'm disappointed. I hope it has a short 8-10 week run, misses the Top 40, and a better single is released before Summer.

I'm disappointed. I hope it has a short 8-10 week run, misses the Top 40, and a better single is released before Summer. Well that sure is a cheery outlook, lol. As a fan of Pat's I'm hoping that you don't get your wish, but I really think that What I'm For is Pat's best chance at a hit off of this record. I would also agree with you about the production. I found it to be a bit loud on several tracks, one of the few complaints I had about this album. I can't say that I agree with you on Pat's voice though, as I think it is one of the strengths of this song (as with most all of Pat's songs).

There's no way this song isn't a big hit. It's the kind of song radio loves and it's on a major label that got the mediocre "Let Me" up the charts. With a song that fans will actually like (particularly with the pc lyric change)? Top 5 at least and very likely to be number one come June.

I'm not sure what you were expecting, but this is one of Pat's faster climbing singles (not including lead singles, which always move faster). The song has only been out for like a month and it's already T40 (it took a temporary step back this week, but it still had a nice spin increase and I don't think it's anything to worry about). Time will tell if it's going to be a big hit, but summer's not even here yet, so the song has plenty of time to catch on.

Oh ok, I guess I haven't followed Pat Green's other singles too closely. I expected this to possibly be a top 5 hit, and it seems to be just hanging around that 40 spot lately.
On a side note, I noticed that "What I'm For" entered the Billboard/R&R top 60 this week.

I noticed "What I'm For" too and I wonder if stations that still object to the tongue-in-cheekiness of "Country Star" are instead going to play "What I'm For" instead.

^ ^ Now that would be truly annoying. Pat suddenly finds two songs with big potential for radio success, and winds up having them cancel each other out. I hope you are wrong about this, but I can imagine it happening. Unless they're Texas stations, though, why wouldn't they just play no Pat Green song instead of finding an album track? It's not like mainstream country radio has a minimum Pat Green quota.

^ Yeah, It's very possible that the airplay of the title track is mostly from radio stations in Texas or something. Why would stations object to "Country Star" anyway??? If Brad Paisley recorded it the song would be a #1 hit!

Aside from 'Here Comes Goodbye', this is my least favorite song on the radio right now. I typically enjoy Pat Green but this song is extremely disappointing.
I am more than ready for it's run to be over, and can only hope "What I'm For" will receive enough airplay to get a rush release and a Top 10 run after this mess is off the air.

I think the song "What I'm For" is highly overrated. I find the lyrics to be really contrived and unoriginal. The instrumentation is boring as well.
Come to think of it, I can say the same thing for "Country Star", except I do like the instrumentation and sound of this one.
EDIT: I was just looking at the other thread with the mediabase updates for songs 51-100. "What I'm For" seems to have a very high audience for the position it's in. I'm pretty sure it's only there due to Texas radio spins.

In today's daily Country Aircheck email, there was an ad for Pat's What I'm For, saying it's "Going For Airplay Now", and "You Asked... We Acted". So it looks like Star is going to be pulled (it did have a 0.106 mill loss on Mediabase from yesterday), and those handful of (mostly Texan?) stations that were playing What I'm For enough to get it to chart, are going to get their way and have it be the next single out.
At least Pat got an "easy" top 40 song from Star...

I can't believe this is done already. I thought this song was good enough to at least be a top 10 hit.....and it's a great summer song. Shocking to me...

I think it still could've been with the proper amount of support, but I think they sensed that What I'm For has the potential to be Pat's first #1, and that this was going to be a slow riser to whatever peak it finally ascended to. I just hope that the illusion of a failed (since this didn't fail, it got pulled in mid-run) single doesn't scare radio away from What I'm For. I guess my hunch from the chart predictions had more truth than I thought.
