I remember that just before he was on Idol (around #32-28), he was really starting to gain a huge amount of spins (+600 bullet before AI, I think). Idol is good for exposure but I'm not so sure about radio airplay though. Edit: If you take a look at the adds comparing WFY and FFL, they are really similar (eerily). I'd say about 80% of stations that played WFY before it reached top 40 (- top 40 market radio stations) have added or played FFL. Now he just needs those top 40 markets to help push this song over the top. I think FFL is not as gender specific as WFY was. This song attracts men as much as women. Know Better is just a perfect song for all. No matter what happens with FFL. THEY must release Know Better. If you search the internet you can find a leaked copy. If anyone is interested, I can PM them it.

Oops, I meant Chris and Elliott are the cream of the Idol males for me. I'm a big fan of Jordin and Kelly as well. Actually, the females usually do much better than the guys.
Elliott will be on American Idol Extra this Wednesday which I hope doesn't mean that he won't reappear on the show before S8 ends.

I think FFL is not as gender specific as WFY was. This song attracts men as much as women. Know Better is just a perfect song for all. No matter what happens with FFL. THEY must release Know Better. If you search the internet you can find a leaked copy. If anyone is interested, I can PM them it. So that's why I hate WFY. In all seriousness, I think the reason it attracts more men this time around is because of the beat. WFY sounds like a schlocky ballad while FFL sounds fresh and hip(per) -- original version, not the one with the piano intro. I absolutely agree with you on Know Better. This has the potential to go #1 in my eyes, but depending on the success of FFL, I can see the song stalling if it was released as the second single. Good news on the KB front though, Elliott considered it as the first single, "Yamin hasn't picked a first single, but has couple contenders. ... 'Then there's Know Better that I did with this really talented production team called Midi Mafia. It's a really hot track — it's got single potential written all over it.'" so he might release this as the second single. Getting back to FFL, I hope the video is NOT a repeat of WFY or OW. Both of those videos were terrible and predictable. He needs something fresh and a storyline that is easy to follow but not as weak as the WFY video. I have a theory as to why some radio stations are reluctant to play Elliott. It could be that they do not want to burn out the song like they did with WFY. Having it in full rotation of 60+ spins in the beginning, dropping it, only to have it back in full rotation when higher top 40 markets pick it up must be irritating. Radio is looking to play new songs, not songs that were in rotation 2 months ago. I think that's what prevented WFY from going any higher. Maybe now, those radio stations are waiting for the big adds to show up. Of course, it doesn't help when Elliott is on an indie label.

I wish Know Better would be the first single, but it doesn't seem like it will since they shot the video for Fight for Love.
I like Fight for Love, but Know Better sounds even more current. I don't really care for the change in tempo in Fight for Love (at first I though it was interesting, not so much so now).
I think "Know Better" has hit written all over it. Can you imagine this song being interpreted in dance (think So You Think You Can Dance).

Elliott is going to be on Idol Tonight tonight, and he's going to be performing live for JoJo on KIIS.
Archie is confirmed for next week, so here's hoping he gets on April 29th. That would be less than one week from when the album drops.

I know it's just quick cut, but he reaches a new high of 278. He had a new high of 47 spins yesterday.

Good to know that his management is trying to get him on Idol. Would suck if they reject him, and I can't think of a reason why they would.

It had such a big effect on his last album/Wait For You's sales, so I REALLY hope he gets a performance spot!

^^I'm not up to speed on that - What was WFY doing pre Idol and how did it change? Was it stalling, did the bullet simply increase, or was it actually heading south and flopping?
I'm curious, because if an Idol performance actually saved a dying song, that's a huge impact.

WFY was slowly moving up the charts but was added by Los Angeles from day one. It wasn't dying just taking awhile to move up. But it was a song on the rise. FFL is a whole other story. It got +12 spins today. If it can do another double digit spin day tomorrow, it would show signs of life.
I wouldn't call FFL dying yet. It's more like struggling to be born. :) With Jordin coming back, there are only two spots left for returning idols. Idol can do tremendous things for a song. That song that Adam did last week got a huge boost.

I guess it helped the sales of WFY significantly more... but since this is a different circumstance (a song waiting to be born ) maybe it would give it that jump start

Yeah, I would think Idol will mostly help with sales, more than anything, although it is possible that positive buzz from a performance could influence some PDs. It could certainly help with requests.
Anyway, I hope this takes off. I didn't watch Elliott's season, but I know he's a sweet guy and I wish him the best.

I can think of a reason he wouldn't be there, there are many idols with new material (singles/albums) out there, Idol could have someone else. They've been really good to Elliott, but others could use that love too. I don't think it's idol rejecting him, it's just really crowded. But maybe he'll be there, it would be nice, of course.
I hope this picks up :)

Hopefully the album sells 60,000 or more in opening week. I think he is going to need a big debut for radio to get interested again. The fact that he's been off of radio for 2 years is hurting him, but he really wants radio success.
Maybe a major label will come around and offer him a contract. Being an indie on the radio in this market is very difficult.

I think 60K right now is way optimistic. Just look at Robin Thicke's album sales to get a more realistic picture of what's going on now. Plus in all Idol history there has only been one sophomore album that's sold better than the first release off that show.
Usually they're lucky to sell 1/3 - 1/2 of what the first one did. And that goes for megastars like Carrie Underwood. It's just a fact of life.

Really interesting interview. I honestly never knew FFL was offered to Leona Lewis first.

Really interesting interview. I honestly never knew FFL was offered to Leona Lewis first. 5 bucks says if she released it.. it would go top 10 easily. He should get a big push around the album drop date. Also, the video is coming soon. I'm still hoping/praying for an Idol performance too.

I just can't hear Leona singing this song AT ALL. Just can't get my brain to compute that.

KB is so great. I so hope he has success. KB is probably his best radio ready song he's released so far. Going by the song and not his indie status, it should reach top 10 easily. He's going to have an uphill climb in anything he releases though. FFL isn't dead yet. I think all of the new songs might be putting it in hopefully a temporary freeze. Hopefully when old songs drop, he gains traction. I'd love to see FFL in the top 25. Then when he releases KB it just takes off. If Elliott has similar success with this album... I hope he shops around for a major label.
