??? Yes. This is a Rock cover of George Michael's masterpiece of 1984. It was once named by Freddie Mercury as one of his favorite songs ever. A classic of the 1980s... in a new version... Does it work for you? www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGzKGigw1fgGoes for adds on March 17th. The original is one my favorite songs of the 1980s and I don't think a cover could match the original, but I am not angry with this one. It is a decent cover and I think this could be a moderate hit for Seether.

If "Rise Above This" couldn't even do that well at CHR, then I don't see what they hope to achieve by sending this. If it does become a big pop hit, they're basically screwed on this format, because their two big hits will be the Amy Lee collaboration at a time when her name was hot, and a remake of a song that is too well-preserved in public memory to not have a certain degree of novelty to it. If they want to be successful at this format, let them work on establishing a name with more representative material; otherwise, better to just focus on rock formats.

I think it's a little too heavy for CHR/Pop, but I quite like it.

Not bad..Pop has been accepting some harder songs lately. I don't see why this couldn't crossover.

Seems like most hard-edged 80s cover songs though do well on Active Rock/Alternative and mostly don't touch CHR (In The Air Tonight, Land Of Confusion, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), etc.)
Boys Of Summer by Ataris did well on CHR but they were more of a pop-oriented band I think (more like AAR or Simple Plan I guess)

Their labels wouldn't allow it. Seether has had a few tries before, and they have a relatively melodic Pop sound in most of their singles.

^Yeah just realized people keep forgettin about Broken (think that was Top 5 CHR)
Maybe it'll be similar to when Limp Bizkit relased "Behind Blue Eyes" (thought that cracked Top 40 CHR or came close)...only difference is IMO seems like too many CHR listeners know the orignal (unlike Behind Blue Eyes), so not sure there's a "reason" for stations to play a hard-rock remake
But still hopin it does somethin...

it's a little too heavy for CHR/Pop I agree. ETA: Is that the final version? It sounds like a demo.

I bought this on iTunes, a faithful cover, but it's a rare play for me, doesn't feel replayable

I like it, I agree though that if "Rise Above This" didn't do very well then I don't see why this one would. Aren't they sending "Breakdown" to HAC as well?

Aren't they sending "Breakdown" to HAC as well? Wow that'll def. flop IMO (i. e. way too hard and intense/negative for HAC)

Wow that'll def. flop IMO (i. e. way too hard and intense/negative for HAC) I think they're sending it because of the success of Rise Above This. Gotta at least try and keep the momentum going. Heck, I still think they should have sent Fake It to pop.

I'm torn on this. George Michael is my favorite singer from the 80's, and this song is a classic as far as I'm concerned- one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time. I don't know how I feel about someone tampering with this. I like Seether, but all the heavy guitar and base, and with his raspy vocals... it's just too heavy for a seven minute slow jam like this. And it doesn't really work for CHR- it's too rock. Hopefully, it can find success on the rock charts.

I think this will be a hit Not HUGE, but will do allright. Even though it's a bit hard, it's a cover of a familiar song which would help in day lists.

^I almost think the song is too familiar to be a successful remake - def. think it's gonna boost replays of original version on AC though
Still kinda torn cause just remembered Time After Time by Quietdrive did alright on CHR, but this dark heavy version just doesn't seem CHR-friendly IMO

I actually really like how that awesome sax riff we all know and love was "rock-ified" here. It works for me. No idea if this will work or not on CHR though.

Actually heard the whole thing on the radio a couple weeks ago and was kinda impressed...guess the last similar hit was Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit which def. cracked the Top 50 (think it came pretty close to Top 40 but not sure)...and this is a more pop song than BBE so thinkin maybe a peak in the 30s...

^BBE peaked at #25 on CHR, definitely their most successful song there. BBE is actually the only Limb Bizkit song I've ever liked, and I even prefer it to the Who's version. I really hope this cracks the top 40, after getting past the initial weirdness of this song being converted into a heavy rocker, I've actually really liked it.

I don't think Disturbed or Marilyn Manson would even try for Pop anyway. Their labels wouldn't allow it. Very true; the labels know that with a CHR attempt, the artist becomes forever labeled a sellout. Although Manson's Sweet Dreams would have definitely done well on CHR if it had been released to it.

Don't be quick to judge. I play guitar quite well. I just enjoy the games. I know. I hate when people respond like that to the GH/RB games. Obviously they don't play real guitar and the games, cause if they did they would know they're a completely different experiences. The games are a lot of fun and very addictive, even if you play real guitar.

I have my guitars up in my room and Guitar Hero Two in the living room. It's not a tough riff, most beginners could even pick it up fairly quickly. Now who's the one that's quick to judge?

The album's officially been re-released with this cover on there. For now, the album is still $1.99 at Amazon. I think it's worth it for $2.
